Newcastle striker Demba Ba: "It was good getting a draw because it was difficult. [Asked if he was determined to prove the manager wrong after being left on the bench] I was determined because lately I was not so happy with some of the things going on. But after the bad comes the good."

Fucking jackpot. Honestly that comment has made me more pleased than it has concerned. Whatever pissed him off galvanised him into his best performance for about nine months.

Shola over Demba? :yao:  20-25 minutes early.

What a needlessly cynical comment.

How is it cynical? His goals tonight and the one out of the blue at Tottenham got us points we probably didn't deserve. Same as the first 6 months of last season.

Player scoring helping us to points is papering over cracks now?

How do other teams manage it?

You missed the first half then?

Goodness sake, man. I wouldn't have had too many complaints had we come away with nowt, but there was a lot to be pleased about in that second half and it wasn't a total smash and grab. It's just annoying to see people saying stuff like 'papering over the cracks', when that 45 minutes was clearly the best part of our season so far. I won't deny that there was help from the referees but every teams get a break now and again.

There's every reason to think we can kick on from here after a pretty ropey start (i say ropey; 5 points is probably par for the course).

We were playing horribly, he came on and got 2 goals out of nothing to save us. That's different to playing well and strikers scoring as a result.

It almost like you want us to lose so you can tell us you were right all along.

Players clearly got a rollicking at half time.

Credit to Pards, he changed things early and fired the side up for a vastly improved second half.

Our turnaround wasn't entirely down to Ba. Everyone improved.

'Everybody played well in the second half and papered over the cracks.' ... no.

His first goal changed the game completely. I wouldn't have bet on Cisse scoring that chance with the form he's in, as proved by his awful miss in the first half.

His first goal would never have happened without serious determination from Cabaye followed by a perfect, to-the-millimetre, undefendable pass. That wouldn't have happened in the first half either.

Anyway, this is a pointless argument. You're glass-half-empty, i'm glass-half-full. There are positive to takes from tonight because we haven't attacked with such finesse, or fought with such determination, all season. That second half should really galvanise our season and it wasn't completely down to Ba, as good as he was.
