Guest neesy111
You'd think if going home was in his plans he'd have just went on a Bosman this summer rather than sign a new contract. Circumstances change.
Guest
If it was a case he wasn't happy with where we were going and he wanted to go to a top 6 club here, or go to a top Italian or Spanish club fair enough, but to walk away from his last lucrative contract within a year to go home would seem a bit kneejerk. Cronky
He hasn't played as well this season as previously, but I can't believe that he's seeking a move. It's like something's on his mind though. I don't think he's a natural captain, and being the captain in a struggling side isn't going to be much fun. Especially if there's one or two tensions within the group. (I'm not buying into the alleged Franco-Spanish split, but I do suspect there's been some difficulties around Ba)
sugoinufc
dont like this, hopefully not true. Annoying story, we dont need an unspiring captain in a relegation battle !
Sima
Who would be our captain should he leave? Jonas?
garth
Who would be our captain should he leave? Jonas? Pardew himself said that Cabaye, would make captain one of these days.
toptoon
Hopefully rubbish. But if not and If he really wants to leave then let him. But not until the summer. Cabaye would make a good captain me thinks.
ExiledGeordie
Yeah even if he was pretty set on leaving for family reasons or whatever and was honest with Pardew you'd hope Pardew would say to him "just give me everything until the end of the season"

I would class the source as pretty credible and he was talking about a possible January departure. There is a personal problem which has changed circumstances since the contract was signed but it has nothing whatsoever to do with anyone else at the club, or indeed the team's form, if said source is to be believed. Usually Tiote and Simpson like.
merlin
There is obviously something we don't know, or aren't being told. To go back to Argentina at a relatively early age doesn't make sense as a career move, but maybe there are personal issues, or he's had enough - I wouldn't blame him for that either, as he's basically being asked to carry the defence on his back. If he leaves - for whatever reason - we will struggle at the back and if, by any mad quirk of fate he went in this window my estimate on the relegationometer would immediately go to an 8. If that was the case he would look for another club in Europe. If he really wants to go back home there must be some big (personal) issues, probably not football related at all. Guest ItalianMagpie
Don't think he'll leave us now. Maybe in the summer, but not now. That's still ugly. Not only because we're gonna need 2 new CB which we'll never get, but also because if his mind is already set to leave I doubt we'll see him at his best this season, and we really can't afford this happening. Ishmael
"The San Lorenzo thing arises because of a personal matter, and because his father is at the club," Lombilla told Radio 9. "He only renewed his contract six months ago. "These stories always create a buzz and generate illusions, but they are just that illusions and nothing more. These things written I just cannot believe."

Hanshithispantz
A 1st a football agent that sounds reasonable. It's hardly surprising that a football agent doesn't want one of the biggest players he represents to leave an ~80k contract at Newcastle United to join San Lorenzo, mind. GM
Going to indulge myself in some baseless conjecture here... If Supermac is right about a French-Argentinian split in the camp, then you could possibly imagine that Jonas and Colo will both be (a) feeling outnumbered (b) feeling demotivated and © thinking of jacking it in. From a simple conflict resolution perspective, you could also imagine that Pardew is thinking the best way of resolving that split in the camp might well be to encourage Colo to leave (Jonas wouldn't be too far behind). By making it look like Colo is the one hankering for a move home, Pardew evades criticism from the fans. Then he replaces Colo with a French centre half (or two, who knows). Problem sorted. As I said, all baseless conjecture, but good to get it off my chest.

Disco
Clever little ploy to unsettle the well paid Argentinians in the dressing room and replace them with cheap wine guzzlers. [/conspiracy]
