Pards blowing smoke up his ass...why doesn't he just STFU

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26152479

"Davide Santon's midfield performance [against Chelsea] . . . forget about what it looked like to the naked eye, his stats were very good, which is great news. It gives us a player we can put in there now"

Even to my eye, i thought his performance suggested we could give him another shot there. Not sure what the stats produced but i thought he did alright.

Going forward yes, defensively it was absymal and if you're playing as a DM that's a major part of job.

Defensively he's abysmal anywhere you play him, i just can't help but still really like him   I'd still have him on my team sheet every week. Still young and learning the game.

Means fuck all. How much pressure did we put Chelsea under really? Apart from the odd counter we were well and truely getting bossed out there so ofcourse their defenders won't have made as many tackles etc.

I know we hate stats, (me included) but he bettered Matic in terms of his defensive contribution. I thought he did alright. I posted the stats on the other page but:

Would have loved it if Pardew popped that line in as well

Stats mean shit, they can only tell a fraction of what goes on. Santon is a good footballer but a terrible defender at the moment. Nobody with half a brain wouldn't see it, know it and wouldn't be fooled by a thick as fuck idiot like Pardew.

I thought he did alright, if it was a new signing and not Santon who people are starting deliver a bit of abuse to for his performances this season, i don't think they would be saying too much about the performance. Was his first game there for us there against the strongest home side in the league and i thought he did a decent job.

I honest to God thought he played well just watching it, I feel like he's catching far too much hate. Mourinho also said the same as Pardew tbh. I'm only really posting the stats to back up what I felt I watched from him. Had  Moussa been able to take a halfway decent first touch he'd have an assist.

Thought exactly the same.

He was ok but just lacks that bit of urgency and desire to put in a last ditch tackle or block. Also there's no heading stat which would be useful defending against a team using a lot of long balls

Italian defenders are pretty tough, well the better ones anyway.

Not sure what was seen in him at a young age to think he was a defender.

Especially as he's pretty technically gifted, and could likely have been developed in a number of other positions.

Well i'm not surprised by two out of three

Am I Santon sympathiser or enabler?

Neither, just not very good at judging football

My honest opinion was that he was put into the side to play some sort of DM role. He did not track Hazard into the box, he let Hazard get the shot away and Hazard scored. He then once again looked OK carrying the ball up the pitch from time to time, again had his standard 0 end-product. His corners, free kicks etc were nothing memorable. He did nothing for me in that role.

He's a LB, and a make-shift RB. Nothing more. None of this play Santon on the wing stuff works for me as he doesn't really put in a good cross, 1 out of his 35 shots look threatening, and he's simply a pretty decent dribbler of the ball before he predictably cuts in side, loses possession and then casually jogs back into defense, where we look caught-out and many times, concede goals.

It's a struggle to defend anyone associated with the club these days. Bimpy on a rampage.

I refer you to my answer to Ian
