Haidara gets forward and leaves acres of space in behind him which when he's played other teams have exploited. Funny, that's how I see Santon. For me Haidara is far more aware and responsive to his defensive duties than Santon.

Ste
Still rate him. Think he can be coached to go on the outside quite easily.
sempuki
Only made £9m or so this transfer window so might need to sell.

Anyway we have few enough defenders as it is (including santon we have 6 senior defenders for the rest of the season) getting rid of one would be just the kind of stupidity ashley would go through with but would be utter madness to only have 5 senior defenders for 4 positions. ilikenewcastle
I agree it would be silly to get rid now. In the summer though, I think him going would be best for everyone.
Ketsbaia
So we'll have 5 defenders until the summer? Possibly Raylor too. That's absolutely shocking. I like Santon but open to selling him. But for such a small fee, when our squad is tiny, is incredibly dumb.
Tiresias
Tbh a bit meh about selling him, would be nice if he stayed fit and improved but he was hardly brilliant before the injury, and the time out is likely to have disrupted his progress, he was always a prospect and not the finished article. Minhosa
Always liked the fella. Think he's still got potential to be first rate full back, he's just in need of some specialist coaching i.e: not from an average ex Notts Forest winger, a charver who played Fullback from Whitley Bay or a wonky nosed ex Everton CB. Ryan
5 first team defenders at the club now if this lad leaves? Completely baffling.

Guest
If him going out on loan meant a centre-back coming in even if it's just on loan also, I think that puts us in a stronger position than a month ago.
midds
They'll see it as - "we're paying him £45k a week (or whatever) and he's contributing nothing. We're pretty much where we want to be and we've got there without him so we'll be no worse off shifting his wage off the payroll, banking a modest fee for him and look for a cheaper alternative that will contribute." We don't even need to replace him. This is free money for the club.

Ketsbaia
I'm surprised Ashley hasn't tried giving contracts of 10k a week, with 50k appearances bonuses - something that's heavily weighted towards playing. Not that any self-respecting player would take that.
duo
Squad is just getting thinner and thinner. Makes no sense letting him go.
