On This Day... Personal Memories

Also, a (barely) interesting day for recent pre-seasons. Shearer scored twice against Bayern Munich in 02. Nicky Butt scored twice against Villerreal in 06, having last featured in the Cardiff/Manu massacre. Then in 07, Smith scored his only goal for us. Mental how much i was buzzing that pre-season under Allardyce.

I'm bored.

Going into the Fat Sam season there was indeed a great buzz. New manager, new owner and a raft of new players- Viduka, Smith, Faye, Beye, Enrique, Geremi. The first half at Bolton we absolutely blew them away and remember texting my mate from the Reebok saying how good we looked. Hell it was even gloriously sunny that day.

Mother of all false dawns.

fter Iam McFaul's penalty save at Ibrox had kept the tie scoreless after the first leg, second half goals from two of our Scottish-born players sent us into the final.

Sinclair's goal sparked a hail of bottles being thrown on to the field from the Rangers fans in the Gallowgate End and pitch invasion that followed halted play for seventeen minutes.

Police made 30 arrests - all but five of which were from Clydeside - and 89 fans needed medical attention.

Trouble had flared before the game in the city centre with pubs and shops vandalised, while visiting fans forced a gate at the Gallowgate End open to gain entry to the ground.

And there had been a brief stoppage before half time in the tie, when Rangers supporters spilled on to the field after a bottle was thrown at their own 'keeper, Gerhardt Neef.

. I was at the match in the old popular stand n as rangers fans were being escorted round the track around the pitch to be put back in the terraces one lad started giving the leazes end the finger.  Naturally the fans reacted and he loved it.  But he leaned a bit too close while giving us the finger and someone kePt up n grabbed his collar and pulled him into the leazes end.  He was very lucky to get out alive cos al I saw was fists and boots laying into him.  He deserved it tho

My Granda is the polis in the pic :aww:

Eleven years since the dreadfully cynical Rob Lee testimonial. One of the few players of recent times to have pocketed testimonial cash rather than donating to charity.

One of only two friendly games I've been too in the last twelve years (the other was the Rangers game in that mini tournament at SJP).

got to say theres a lot of rob lee's personality i don't like. great player for us but theres just something thoroughly dislikeable about him and the testimonial thing didn't come as a surprise.

Yeah, heard a lot of stories that he was one of the greediest blokes ever seen at the club. Would insist on playing every game even when less than 100% as he hated missing out on appearance bonuses. His testimonial was completely unnecessary and shocking that he kept 100% of the cash. Not as if he needed it at all.

Great servant to the club though before anyone starts.

2010 United's hopes of doing a deal with Marseille for their French international midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa looked to have received a boost, when the player was said to have travelled to Tyneside.

A photo doing the rounds was claimed to show the 23 year-old arriving at Newcastle Airport a few hours earlier.

Greatest ever NUFC signing for so many reasons.

But christ the England Captain signing for a Division 2 side aged just 31. That would never happen now

4 years ago today, 1-1 against Man Utd. Christ.

I was so optimistic at the start of that season

It just shows how poorly managed we were that year. A team with Coloccini, S Taylor, Jonas, Given, Martins, Owen, Duff, Jose Enrique, Nolan, N'Zogbia and Beye should be nowhere near the bottom 3.

SuperMac Super Star's debut.

Newcastle beat Liverpool 3-2, with McDonald scoring a hat trick and getting knocked out and losing a tooth looking for his fourth.

It's all on a popular video website.

SuperMac, Superstar,

How many goals have you scored so far?
