So the Keegan business was fine, hiring Kinnear was fine, relegation was fine, sacking Hughton was fine, selling Carroll was fine and not spending the money was fine? Not strengthening the side after our best season in years was fine as was daubing the entire stadium with his chavvy brand. Oh and dropping the name St James Park, yeah fine with that. It's what Ashley has been extremely poor at since he came, for a business man he has been very poor at securing commercial revenue outside of the fan base. The quote "Newcastle United will be sponsored by the money of deprived people up and down the country" sums it up quite frankly, it's true. Harsh views from a couple of people who have never been in the situation where they'd need to use such a service. A lot of their customers will feel like they've had no choice but to borrow money in this way to sort out a few bills before they get in trouble. His concern is getting the best deal possible and if Wonga is the best deal then its the best deal. I've never used them but I can only guess that this type of company is the only one certain people will ever get a loan from and not everybody is fortunate enough to be in a position to get loans from elsewhere. From one former customer: Having paid my loan in full I later discovered that wonga had removed the payment again this left me stranded 400 miles away from home unable to access my money basically theft . After sending 4 emails to which I didn't get a reply and over an hour on a premium rate number I was told its a computer error. I was promised call backs which I didn't get. It has been sorted today 6 days later but only after I said I was going to call the BBC news. Stay clear of wonga And another: on the 29/08/12 i repaid my loan in full only to find they empitied my bank account by taking further funds they were not entitled to after eventually getting through they state its down to the fiance department and have no idea how this as happened and are saying they ringing all its happened to which is quite a few i have incurred bank charges have unpaid direct debits and wonga are doing very little to sort it out only fobbing people off i will be reporting them to the fsa my advice is to... And another: Paid my loan in full then wonga still took another 500 from my account. they say its not showing on the system so i hsve to wsit up to 7 working days for it to be reversed. have been left stranded with no money and a frozen bank account. on sick leave with a 3 year old and my medication had run out but cant buy my next presvription. thanks wonga I'll not post any more. "Surely if you're starving and someone offers you a meal for your left arm it's best to take that meal." In the short term, possibly, and only especially if the situation was of your own creation. That might be up for debate though. They are predatory and can absolutely ruin people. The practice has been banned in a lot of places. But in the long term, if people have to flock to services like that, if they stay popular, if circumstances of the economy/law drive them into it (e.g. situations not of their own making), then I think it says a lot about the failings of the safety net of a society that businesses like that are allowed to flourish.
