The studs on the ankle seems to be what's being ignored by most.

I laughed when I saw the decision from the ref's angle. Then I saw the studs on the ankle. At regular speed it doesn't look too bad. And it's still probably harsh relative to most in-game decisions. But that then speaks to the terrible inconsistency of refereeing decisions.

Under the laws of the game, it's probably a red. But we'll probably see multiple worse challenges tomorrow that get a yellow or less.

Always happy to see an Arsenal persecution complex, though.

He seems a good bloke but Ian Wright is all in on that persecution complex along with fans and their manager. All absolutely Insufferable when it comes to poor Arsenal.

He comes across as such a lovely bloke, Ian Wright. But is blind when it comes to Arsenal opinions. Can't detach his emotion, which I get.

I'm probably in the minority but when I saw the incident for the first time, I couldn't believe the massive brouhaha that had been created around it. Red for me

Even worse decision made up north in the Rangers game so it's not just here; this one was a lot worse as he even used VAR for about 3 minutes.

Mental decision but, like Arsenal, it's Rangers so 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

If that was given against us we would all be demanding an apology and no ban etc. What I found interesting is how quickly Oliver whipped out the red - he didn’t deliberate or take any advice, which supports the violent conduct interpretation.

Even though I don’t think it is a red, I am fully behind the potential for it to make teams stop cynically ending counter-attacks that way. It’s cheating but is has become good strategy; it shouldn’t be rewarded.

Arteta has created this.

Similar to Klopp, if a ref makes a borderline decision against his team it's the top sports news story for the next week. It's all intended to pressurise refs from making calls against them in future, whilst often distracting from a poor performance or defeat.

From memory, I cannot remember Howe ever going down this route, which he deserves great credit for.

Inevitable and totally unsurprising that it’s gone too far.

Toothpaste won’t go back in the tube either. Media is absolutely reliant on it and VAR has massively aided this speed up in direction too.

Thought it was really good refereeing from Oliver, he saw something that many people miss even after the replays. It's few different orange cards in any case (studs on the shin, no attempt to play the ball and denying an opportunity to score even if it's too far away from their goal) so think red is perfectly fine. Mad how there's any controversy, Arsenal fans are the absolute worst which is some going considering Liverpool fans also exist.

Media will wring their hands at this but they’re as to blame as those that sent the threats for perpetuating it.

I’m old enough to remember them hounding Anders Frisk’s family after that Chelsea/Barcelona game.

Whats funny?

They were doing it a little while back with that goal that was disallowed vs Spurs.

Just how what's happened has nothing to do with Liverpool but it didn't stop you.

I don’t get it?

Referees are increasingly seeing abuse aimed at them, and lately it’s largely been from the same clubs. The issue isn’t just over yesterday’s game, but over a growing trend.

The only way you are going to stop it is by addressing the issue, and that ultimately has to go down to points deduction. You can’t just single out Arsenal fans when Liverpool fans are still abusing a referee from last year, and are actually online at the moment encouraging Arsenal fans.

Not gonna get all generic about Scousers but some of those that are still rattling on about refereeing decisions were egged on by Klopp, tbf

Probably the first Arsenal outrage that I have some sympathy for, I didn’t think it was a red, though some angles I’ve seen since make an argument for it. It’s so tiring how every decision against them has to have an inquiry though.

Aye, I’ve already made various posts about how we will look back at his time in English football with a negative view for all the shit he’s left lying around.

It’s all so they get the favourable decisions in future, too.

It was that cunt Klopp’s endgame at Liverpool.

Okay so It's a wider problem but you only bring up Liverpool. It's just funny, that's all.

I saw this finally and was wondering what I missed. Glad to come on here and people agree.

It's a red for me and I feel bad for the referee getting dog's abuse from all corners for it. Media mostly/all to blame here.
