colinmk
If you can't rely on a central defender because he has the mental capacity of a walnut then he's no use. Or a Bramble, no use.
Newcastle Fan
Why are we discussing Bramble here?
Lotus
Bramble had everything apart from a brain. And that makes a central defender worse than useless. Mental that so many managers kept trying to get something from him that wasn't there. He wasn't worse than useless, though. He had far more good games than bad. He couldn't be relied upon to concentrate. Obvious to everyone. I know all fans have a mancrush or some player or other but Bramble ain't worth the love. Ronaldo
Nobody is arguing he could be relied on. But he made some vital contributions too that harshly seem to pale into insignificance because he made a lot of blatant mistakes.

Stuy_O
And then got Jenas rather than Prutton. Think the only bad choice around that time was going for Bramble rather than wrapping up Distin. Think we had a more than decent offer in front of Distin but he was fishing for more money. Shame aswell as he was quality when we had him.
KaKa
Bramble was s***, but for me he is still behind Boumsong, Ramage, Cacapa and maybe Huntington. Probably on par with Williamson. Cacapa Man, who was that dude. So frail and weak. That debut (?) where he got manhandled by some tonk Portsmouth striker at home. Hideous.

He looked a classy CB first few matches before Benjani destroyed him.

Ronaldo
He looked fucking awesome till the Reading game right before Pompey, actually. Pompey was just a fucking bloodbath. Remember he Scored against Spurs in a 3-1 win at SJP and was the best player on the pitch. Classy defender, good in the air and a good reader of the game but a perfect example of what happens in this league if you're too physically inferior. It's so unique, the PL and some players just don't really cope even having won everything elsewhere. He did have a brief resurgence under Keegan later in the season. Few good performances. Ronaldo
Are we actually polluting this thread with talk of Cacapa and Bramble? Jesus. It's either that or hear about how Hatem's so fat him being our quickest player must be an intricate illusion.
Kanj
Something about this league for better or for worse I guess. Anyway can we revive a Robert appreciation thread? And this thread go back to talking about our mad mercurial beast that is Hatem?
KaKa
Cacapa and Rozenhal Unbelievable that this was our centre back pairing under Allardyce of all people. I mean, you really couldn't get a softer pairing.
