NUFC transfer rumours in the press

Would be similar to our Ba signing of last summer. A player on loan from Hoffenheim, available at a cut-price.. seems inevitable that we will swoop in for him.

Hmm, doesnt look good for us..

Sunday Mirror: Newcastle are ready to offer Man Utd starlet Ezekiel Fryers a deal after Old Trafford contract talks broke down.

Don't think he is a realistic option for us anyway, talk of around £12m fee for him, no way we would pay that.

Alan Pardew jets to Holland on scouting mission

by Lee Ryder, Evening ChronicleApr 30 2012Add a comment Recommend

ALAN PARDEW shrugged off Newcastle United's defensive woes against Wigan - and jetted straight to Holland yesterday on a Euro scouting mission.

Pardew is understood to have been checking out two of his long-term targets as his rebuilding work on Tyneside looks set to continue in the months ahead.

Reports in the Netherlands today indicated that Pardew attended FC Twente’s 2-1 home defeat against champions-elect Ajax at De

Grolsch Veste. Steve McClaren’s side featured Toon target Douglas but the Brazilian-born defender could not stop Ajax taking victory as Jan Vertonghen skippered the Amsterdammers to victory and put them on the brink of the Dutch title.

Two weeks ago Pardew watched Vertonghen in Ajax colours in their 3-1 win over De Graafschap with the Belgian strongly linked with a move away from the Eredivisie this summer.

However, he was able to kill two birds with one stone yesterday with Douglas also a long-term target. Vertonghen has tried to play down talk of transfers and said recently: “Everyone has already made their peace with the fact I have gone, but I have not gone yet.

“I have a year left on my contract and I have not decided anything. I am still at Ajax.”

Douglas, though, has told McClaren his future lies elsewhere and the player is keen on a move to the Premier League.

Also on show for Twente was Luuk De Jong, the striker who United have already ran the rule over on several occasions.

However, with defensive signings seemingly the priority at Newcastle next summer it would seem Pardew is determined to make sure he gets his homework exactly right before taking the plunge on spending a lot of money on a big-name defender.

The more i see Sigurdsson the more impressed i get and he's much more than just a goalscorer like i thought and i think we could get him regardless of EL or CL.

As for the Holland scouting mission...... i dont see us signing Vertonghen, but i could easily see us signing Douglas in fact i think we might..... Luuk De Jong is an interesting one and only one i think we pursue if Ba leaves.

Pardew scouting Douglas & Vertonghen reminds me Roeder's scouting trips to see Kuyt

Why do people do this?

Its not at all though, unless you are daft enough to think all those trips to France were the same? What about those other trips to Holland for Tiote? Or the Trips to Germany which worked out quite well for us too?

Its pointless doom mongering up there with 'Ashley's trousering our cash'

I agree. Its not like we can buy them now anyway. We should be glad they are being checked over numerous times.

I think its Ashley's ability to shot himself in the foot just when things are going well mantra that is circling the wagons.

I agree with you and the 'Ashley's trousering our cash' stuff that has always been utter nonsense, i dont even try to get involved with that.

Stop having a go at me Mr Angry man :D

I'm giving you the cliche reasons that are plopped out in the papers and by some supporters, i'm not one of them as i can see what he is trying to do, despite the fecks up he's made in the past, and thankfully the past is where they seem to be staying.

Right go and have a horlicks or and angry wank, get rid of that stressy bulbous vainy neck  :p

I dont think we will get either really (Vertonghen or Douglas). I dont think they would want to be 3rd choice behind Taylor and Coloccini. That said, we are more likely to see rotation next season given we have options.

I would love to see us sign De Jong, absolute quality prospect but one i think we would only go in for should Ba leave.

Sigurdsson would be a great signing but at 10mil its unlikely.

Ok mate, but do you see what you we've done now :D

I think the new cb will be ahead of Taylor. The lad has been fantastic when he has played but he is injured too often for us to lower our transfer targets.

Yep i expect that to be the case, if we want to be in europe and compete in other competitions we would need 3 top class CB's ( Colo, Taylor, New CB) 2 decent back ups ( Williamson and Perch)

Taylor has played a squad role before anyway, i dont expect it to be an issue......

I think he wants four specialist centre backs who can step into the first team if needed. At the moment, we've only got three, and Pardew has had experience this season of two of them being unavailable at one time, and the problems that caused. In fact, didn't we play Simpson and Perch against Norwich?

It's a vital position, and while Perch has done okay, he doesn't want to have to rely on him.
