NUFC transfer rumours in the press

Recommended Posts

Despite my pessimism in regards to our transfer activity this summer I've actually become fairly confident about our season in the last 10 days or so. Assuming we don't sell any of our best players we still have a really good first 11 with decent depth in a couple positions. Obviously very thin up front, but it's the one area where I think we'll get at least one body.

The thing was though, we had a good first 11 out for nearly all of last season certainly compared to the teams around us, but the tactics and set piece routines counteracted it. We do have good players, but ive no confidence in the manager, and tbh, the coaches, getting the best out of them.

Agree, I'm afraid... Cabaye, Ba,Cisse, Tiote and the rest worked well together - but now that AP got the time to have an influence he spoils it! We'd ve better of letting everyone (not Tiote) act on instinct! NO manager at all, and let some Random Dude pick the team...

Granted, last night was the first friendly, but the set pieces were the same. Vuckic took free kick on half way line, everyone up, and floated straight to the keeper. We should be working on new set piece routines.

tbf the majority of free kicks from about 40yds are like that from most clubs. didn't realise so much till around christmas time when so much was made of it on here then took more notice of other clubs. most clubs if it outside shooting distance is a pretty aimless lump to the back of the box, only arsenal not really doing it most of the time.

The set pieces i the same now as when we had Carroll, but now we don't have this hooligan to bully the defenders...

Same tactic, different players = not clever at all..

Depends on your definition of lump. Any sort of crossed ball could be classed as so but a floated cross a la NUFC is nowhere near as threatening as a whipped cross or flatter cross.

we've definitely been found wanting from wider positions but from deeper we are as bereft of ideas as everyone else. (ie not many teams whip crosses in from near the half way line but they do, we don't from 20yds out on the touch line)

I've forgotten what a transfer rumour actually is, I recall they were fun sometimes, maybe we'll see one sometime in the next few weeks?

Here's one:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-transfers-papiss-cisse-sold-2060316

Papiss Cisse will be sold as his relationship with Newcastle has completely broken down.

Striker Cisse was not on the club’s Thursday flight to Portugal, where they will play two pre-season friendlies, because he refused to wear kit carrying the logo of controversial payday loans firm Wonga.

Cisse, a Muslim, is said to be “deeply disappointed” by missing out on the tour and increasingly upset that his concerns have not been addressed by sponsors Wonga or the club.

Lawyers and the Professional Footballers’ Association have been called in.

It is understood Cisse wanted to go on the pre-season trip, but refused to wear the kit on religious grounds.

The Senegal international is upset that the Magpies appear to be trying to make him look the bad guy when he is simply trying to stand up for his beliefs and principles.

Newcastle have refused to back down and told Cisse and his representatives there is no way back.

It seems certain he will leave St James’ Park this summer.

Wealthy Russian club Anzi Makhachkala are monitoring the situation and are interested in a £10million deal.

There has also been interest from the Premier League and the Bundesliga, including Borussia Dortmund.

Cisse has been left to train on his own for the past five days, because Newcastle’s deal with Wonga requires all players to wear the firm's logo on their kit not only during games but also when training and travelling.

The 28-year-old has offered to wear an unbranded shirt or one carrying the name of a charity, as revealed by MirrorFootball last week.

But that proposal has not been accepted by Wonga, who believe it sends out the wrong message.

They are keen to re-brand themselves as a “digital finance” company rather than the controversial “pay-day loan” sphere.

Newcastle's owner, Mike Ashley, is also standing firm with his club’s multi-million pound deal with Wonga, and if his patience snaps that could result in Cisse’s departure.

Cisse was told on Wednesday that Newcastle wanted him to travel to Portugal on the week-long trip, but only if he wore Wonga kit - and neither side were prepared to give ground.

He strongly believes he signed a contract to play football for Newcastle United, not advertise Wonga's services.

Cisse has been told his training needs will be catered for on Tyneside, and he will turn up on Thursday for his solo session.

The Magpies are losing patience with Cisse’s stance, but he has won the admiration of campaigners who accuse Wonga of exploiting the poor with huge interest rates charged for short term loans.

Newcastle bought Cisse for £9m from Germany's Freiburg 18 months ago and he has netted 21 goals for the club.

Buying an adequate replacement would cost up to £15m.

United are short of strike options as it is, and this latest distraction is a nightmare scenario for boss Alan Pardew, who now faces a chronic lack of strikers ahead of the new season.

Pardew is in the market for two new frontmen - and that was before the Cisse/Wonga dispute came to a disruptive head on Wednesday.

True. I think much of my optimism is centered around HBA being fit. He transforms our team and earns points on his own.

Why do they think an adequate replacement will cost £15m? I think £10m and we could replace him fairly easily. And I'm not talking about Darren Bent for £8m or whatever it is Villa want for him. Graham Carr would have no problem identifying a player in that price bracket suitable for this club.

I would put good money on us not even going as high as £10m though

According to Sky Sports:

Reports in L'Equipe claim that Newcastle could be tempted to look at the Ligue 1 market again in their search for a new striker. The Magpies are said to be looking at Marseille frontman Andre-Pierre Gignac.

This is the article in question (as far as I can tell) - http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/B-gomis-plait-a-l-om/386576 - literally fuck all in it.

Tempted to look

Whilst most clubs have bought and are getting ready in pre season we're a hundred miles behind contemplating whether Joe or Alan should drive.

And in addition the communication has gone back to the bad old days.

Deafening silence.

No communication, not even an announcement who's running the club day in day out since Llambias left.  Just something from what Pardew has said.

I seem to remember when we got relegated it was a pretty quiet summer other than the Lovenkrands rumour all summer.

That summer seemed to be dominated by outgoing rumours and Barry Moat

We've been quite good in recent years at keeping things quiet, the transfers only really coming into the media when they're about to be completed. This is a much better way of doing business to be honest. Plus means I can watch the cricket and not spend time worrying about bloody stupid made up transfer rumours.

Yep.

They may have tucked into their shells a bit after old Joe took the microphone for a couple of tunes.

Have we ever had such a quiet summer links wise?

We're barely even being linked to anyone to sign for the Development squad.

That's stability for you :) - don't want to rock the boat by signing players. Just selling and upsetting only real striker :)

It's galling to think a year ago we had one of the most feared strike forces in the Premier in Ba and Cisse, with Best as a battering ram option. Here we are in summer 2013 with Ba and Best gone and Cisse looking on the way out as well. All I will say is this thread will be interesting in the next few weeks, mark my Wonga-tastic words.
