He's mugging the club and the fans off with his position on this. He's very selective with his take on his religious responsibilities. I don't believe that the club have any other option but to get rid if he won't wear the shirt.

I have no intention of buying a top with Wonga on it but then again I'm not buying paid a fortune to do so.

On a less serious note, can they not misspell the logo on his shirt so that it reads Wango?

We could have just got a non-cunt sponsor.  It's just like the rapey thing, it's not hard not to sign rapists, other clubs do it all the time.  We, in our time honoured tradition, just chose the company that would give us the most embarrassment, problems and general shite.  We're Newcastle, that's how we roll.

Sense would be to loan cisse out, till we change sponsor.  However the club only seem to manage the cash flow on a short term basis. ie they will sell him.

What!? It's a four year deal is it not? Loan out our only capable striker, who's 28, for 4 years?

You call that sense?

Won't wear a kit with wonga on because some law that in certain cases legitimises murder, rape, slavery and peadophilia says he can't.

Off you trot mate.

Conflicted on this, on one hand Wonga are a cunt of a business, on another Cisse knows what football is about and that that sponsorship  comes in many forms and helps pay his wages.

Him not wearing a sponsor makes no difference to Wonga advertising as there will be thousands of fans and the rest of players with the logo on the top. Not worth all the arguing tbh

If we can get 15million for Cisse then sell him. No doubt he can score some wonder goals but he's sort of too one dimensional player. I'd prefer a target man up front who can hold up the ball while the wide forwards arrives as the lone striker which seems to be Pardews way of playing. Kind of Carroll's style of a player...No player is bigger than the club as the saying goes!

Ok this might be me being too positive but a reason for him not traveling could be because he's currently observing Ramdan, a bit pointless throwing him into games into games when he's not eating anything as it will do more damage than good.

I know Wonga and Virgin Money are very different in how they do business, however, surely Virgin Money's business would also go against Cisse's religion? For me Cisse is in the wrong on this one if the stories are true. Then again as someone pointed out earlier the club hold some responsibility for accepting such a cunty sponsor in the first place.

It really does though, this is different to there being one less Wonga logo in the ground or one less advertising board up. This is the Newcastle no.9 basically saying "This is a such a bad and immoral company that I refuse to wear their logo"

The main reason for advertising your logo in a ground or on a shirt isn't so someone will go "Oh, I just fancy getting a loan out" it's to keep your brand image up for current and future customers. You want them to see you as the number one reliable company, you'll trust a company that you've seen around a lot more than a cheaper company that has no marketing.

What will this do for their brand image? It has a lot of exposure for being an immoral company now, it's a disaster for Wonga really

It's not acceptable for views to be a matter of degree? For example, Cisse things (like almost everyone) that Wonga are a lot worse than Virgin?

I think some sort of tribunal needs to be set up by the PFA and Premier League,  with the matter kept out of our own hands.

As for us the fans, I think it is time for an active protest against payday loan sponsorship.

The means for doing so is simple, petition the government.

Wonga are expanding into the US from what I've read, with every game available in the country they'll bloody damn well want our number 9 wearing the shirt.  What the fans wear makes about 10% of the exposure for the sponsor.

The other worrying thing about this is the knock-on effects it may have on the other players. Cisse seems like quite a happy-go-lucky, friendly guy to me and those who've met him say the same. Generally he plays the game with a smile on his face. I can't imagine him being precluded from a pre-season training and team-building trip with the rest of the entire playing squad is something that they feel too cracking about, particularly considering he's our number one striker.

I wouldn't assume that Cisse has the support of the other players. The other Muslim players aren't raising the same objection, and I would imagine a large part of the squad feel that Cisse is being hypocritical, for the same reasons as several on here.

Well you are assuming same as everyone else if you think they will regard it as hypocrisy. For all those saying Wonga is just like Barclays, I'm sorry it's not. I'll bet no major club would touch Wonga with a shitty stick and it's bad enough we stooped to that level, now it's costing us our better players.

How is Cisse being hypocritical? Who is he lending money to?

Because he quite happily wore a shirt with virging money on, while playing in the barclays premier league. They're both money lenders who chatge interest.

What Cisse is effectively saying is that Sharia law is ok with interest rates of less than 50%. Which is absolute bollocks.

Has he been quoted as saying it's a religeous matter? It might just be a moral one (if this is even the problem).

IIRC, when we announced Wonga was going to be a sponsor, some time ago now, the Muslim Council of Great Britain got on the news pretty sharpish saying how it was unacceptable for a Muslim to carry this sponsor's logo. Haven't heard a peep from the now though. You'd think that if Cisse had declared that was the issue they'd be making sure they get some exposure over it.

Of course, i could be wrong but i'm convinced we have anything like the full story here.

Or he's drawing a line like others do at acceptable levels of interest and those which are extortionate. If he's a hypocrite then so are all the major clubs who do the same thing.
