Stu
Except spell out that one was better in the league which is what really sorts out good teams from the rest. I'm not putting Keegan alongside Ferguson but I would put oneills acheivments alongside sounesses. Have to disagree, Blackburn when Souness took over had been an established Prem team (champions within the past decade, no less!) and Leicester were a struggling yo-yo team - he turned them into regular top-10 finishers and won silverware which got them into Europe, all on a relative shoestring (unlike Souness)

madras
The cash had just about ran out when souness got to Blackburn, they played far better football on coming back up than Leicester aswell. The fact of their past has little bearing what they they were by that point.

Stu
I know, after rechecking that he did in fact inherit a team with Pontus Kåmark, Steve "head bandage" Walsh and Garry Parker, I'm wondering if I've been to superflous in my appraisal of his managerial skills. madras
There was a time when liam obrien, Gavin peacock and Scott sellars would have been seen as you see that Leicester squad, its what Keegan did with them that changed that view.

Of course it is, Keegan had to beat Leicester to keep us in the 2nd division, Leicester were playing the same game to get promoted.
Benwell Lad
Martin O'Niell did a decent job at Leicester moulding average players into an efficient unit which played unattractive football but were hard to beat. It was almost as good as the job Joe Kinnear did at Wimbledon, but not quite.

Martin O'Neill is a very good manager and has had some success in every job he's had. Villa was the only overall disappointment but at times they were flying high under him, and won't get there again for a while (partly because of him, mind). Wullie
Object to a couple of things that mojo has said, firstly that Keegan did ok at City - he did an absolutely fantastic job there, they were at a low ebb in Division 1 when he took over and he got them promoted immediately, breaking records in the process, then finished 9th in his first season back in the Premier League, establishing them as a solid top flight team again straight away. Ask any City fan what they think of KK. Secondly, you said O'Neill never ruined a club like Souness, when Aston Villa are still desperately trying to offload the overpriced and overpaid shite that he packed their reserves with.
