Interesting article in the Guardian today comparing MON's mackems with Agent Bruce:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/mar/27/martin-oneill-sunderland-statistics

My favourite bit:

Opta's stats show that Sunderland have fewer shots under O'Neill (the second worst in the league, remarkably) than they did under Bruce; they have less possession (42% as opposed to 47%) and make fewer passes, of which they complete fewer; they put in fewer crosses (the 12th most as opposed to the third most); and they win a lower percentage of their tackles.

Turns out the only thing they do better now is rattle in goals from outside the area, at a rate the article describes as "unsustainable"....

A was in the Town Wall last night and some daft mackem has written SAFC FTM 9-1 in the bogs. Still can't believe that 9-1 crack that they come out with, along with the ponteland airport patter, they really are thick as fuck.

Pretty interesting that. I know great goals are part of football, but there was a 4-6 week spell where it did seem like they were scoring a Goal of the Month contender per game. Never going to keep that up, and since they have dried up, so have the results.

I actually know more non-Mackems going tonight than Mackems. Hell, my housemate from Isle of Man is going and she has 0 interest in football.

Keepers will be watching out for it now, its not rocket science if you know they are going to send long range shots at you, stand a metre or so off centre opposite side of your strongest hand.
