BlueStar
It depends if you think the fascist position on nationalism, global expansion and ethnic identity are racist or not, doesn't it. True. The term "fascist" is seen differently by different people as we've seen on here. Wikipaedia has this - "The word fascist is sometimes used to denigrate people, institutions, or groups that would not describe themselves as ideologically fascist, and that may not fall within the formal definition of the word." Thats been my view of the word. Extremist political views, right OR left But that's not how Di Canio using it. He IS using the formal definition when he self identifies as a fascist, not the kind of usage where you call a bus driver a fascist for not changing your fiver. Guest firetotheworks
It's xenophobia more than racism isn't it? When the Facsist ideal is about an insular state, then it probably just becomes semantics really. Countries, races, sex and so on. No wrong making a right and everything. Reminds me of that sketch on Jam 'No, I wasn't cheating on you, I was only bloody raping her!' Well, how do you justify shutting your country up from other countries and peoples though? It's generally not easy without some sort of idea of racial purity/superiority. It's even more difficult to imagine how on an individual level you could be ideologically "fascist" without being racist. Does Di Canio just somebody who thinks 'This has nothing to do with any other country, but our government is so awesome, so f*** our individual rights and lets give it undisputed authority?' That's probably even more screwed up than Racism I agree. I can't imagine racism not being part of it, but there'll be some that say 'it's not about colour' and think that that's all that has to be said. Guest Phil K
Ignorance.Pure ignorance. NO PLATFORM FOR FASCISTS. Not even close. Extremist views against people can be done by both sides of extremist views, whether you call them Fascist or Totalitarians means zilch. End product is the same. WarrenBartonCentrePartin
Mussolini was never really an anti-semite in the same way Hitler and the Nazi's were either. It was only when he began to believe that Judaism was linked with Bolshevism that he really adopted an anti-semitic policy.
oldtype
At the end of the day, we're probably paying Di Canio too much respect by even having a serious discussion about this. He's most likely just an attention whore who thinks associating himself with Mussolini makes him look hard or something.

Fighting to give everyone control does not end up the same as fighting for the dominance of a few. The ends are not defined by their means. People will die for what they believe in, not to be a statistic. If definitions meant nothing there would be no post mortems. After all, dead is dead is dead in your eyes. Dokko
It's quite unreal how many mackems are happy with this. They really are a different type of person, we've all known it for years but the rest of the country are starting to realise how disgusting they are. One good thing that'll come out of this is they'll ruin themselves over this doing silly things like doing that salute to him, singing fascist songs in support of their new leader and after the fines and uproar the dust will settle and no serious manger, player or sponsor will go anywhere near the club again. Parky might say at this point Short is doing it on purpose, he's damaging the club as much as he can before cutting them adrift. Nothing else makes as much sense
Guest NobbyOhNobby
The main concern with me with his political leanings is that it justifies those beliefs in a poorly educated, and essentially poor part of the country that is already seeing increased EDL and UKip memberships. The public face of the city is a confessed fascist, so they'll all think its alright to make vocal their poorly formed gripes with immigrants etc etc etc. I genuinely won't be surprised to see some idiot Sunderland fans replicating his Lazio salute, and that's a huge shame. They are desperate for something to go their way. They want their club to stop up, and it's more a case of them being blissfully ignorant than malicious. Some of the rhetoric on RTG is way over the top that's for sure, but it stems from their desperation for this appointment to be "the one".

Dave
Di Canio will deck McClean within the first few weeks, for sure. Was reading the Celtic forum and they seem deeply divided about Di Canio. Guess it could go either way. And they have it right. DiCanio's got a volatile image. Always going to rile more than he gets adherents I was delighted with his appointment from a purely selfish view as a Newcastle fan. But the OTT response and soap box ranting has amazed me. thankfully, some have been doing the p*ss taking route and slowly that'll take over from the strutting orator types. This is just too good to allow to be bogged down in pompous lecturing. Yeah, let's only say and do the things that one person on the entire thread wants to say and do. Imagine that! Hands up if you agree with this statement http://d75822.medialib.glogster.com/media/d2/d2688fb7b836a5896ed6afcaf4bf313504d9d996f280dfe922ba304792df58ec/mussolini-speech-jpg.jpg

Hanshithispantz
Does it really matter if he's a fascist or not? I mean it obviously does, but I don't really see what effect it will have on the club once the initial storm has weathered, by the start of next season he'll just be another manager at another Premiership/Championship club. It's not like the zombified corpse of Benito Mussolini has been given the job.
