We're booked up with flights but just wondering where is it best to stay in Lisbon for the pre-match gathering and a good night out after the game?

Heard that Bairro Alto is decent place?

Yes. It has one street full of trannies. Avoid it.

Oh great!

Any suggestions then?

Bairro Alto has lots of streets.

One of them is filled with trannies.

Avoid only that one.

It's called Rua Benfica.

Would it be a good area to stay or is there somewhere better?

How about Rossio?

Do all of you Benfica fans hate Bobby Robson then?

Sir Bobby Robson managed both our rival and our enemy, and even so, Benfica fans carry a lot of appreciation and respect for him. Despite he managed those horrible clubs, he always showed a lot of respect and admiration for Benfica.

Me and a few mates have booked up for Amsterdam when the final is on, could be interesting depending on who gets to the final.

You get the tickets in the draw?

I just meant we're going to be over there whilst the final is on.

Not at all, actually I posted this a few days ago

I'd just like to talk about a very nice episode regarding a very special man. It's very rare for someone to be admired by rival fans in Portugal. One of those rare persons was Bobby Robson.

Here's an extract from his biography. He's talking about the time he arrived to Portugal to coach Sporting Lisbon and in the 2nd paragraph is when he was about to leave them.

Everything went well. Sporting rented an appartment for me, on the 9th floor. But what did i see from my balcony? No more no less than the Estádio da Luz (Stadium of Light). I immediately felt pleased with the portuguese atmopshere. The Stadium of Light was worldwidly famous. I couldn't ignore the magic that envolved it. Plus, among the portuguese, my club had always been Benfica. Meanwhile i started thinking that I now belonged to his closest rival (Sporting Lisbon) [....]

I was ready to leave Sporting and carry on with my life, as soon as they paid me what was due to me. We were in the Fall of 1993 and it became especially painful for me to open the doors  of my balcony and set my eyes on the Estádio da Luz and think: "Here's the club where I should be, the Glorious Benfica, the one I always admired"

Truly, SIR Bobby Robson  O0

Tickets are on sale for anyone wanting one. For the away leg 4th April.

50 points

£26

Reckon it'll go on sale without loyalty points?

3200 tickets sent to us, they expect to get more as well and it will drop down in points. Obviously depends on demand and that looks very high as to how far it will go down.

Rossio is a big, noisy square with some decent cafes and a few hole-in-the-wall places selling ginjinha, a sort of cherry liqueur (possibly the world's most localized drinking phenomenon). It's pretty central and I used to stay there sometimes when I was working in Lisbon.

Nightlife is up the hill in the Bairro Alto, brilliant district of narrow streets and many bars, or down on the docks (Docas) where there's less atmosphere but things go on later.

For those of you who have the opportunity to stay longer in Portugal, enjoy and visit at least Sintra and Cascais. Locations are very close to Lisbon (30 minutes by train) and beyond Lisbon you may know two of the most beautiful surroundings.

Both places have a good night life with excellent bars.

Sintra is a place that can join beach and mountains. There's a mountain full of mysticism with a castle (Moorish Castle) and Palace (Palácio da Pena) in the woods.

In the center is another Palace (Palácio da Vila), parks and many historic buildings worth checking out. Also in the center is that the bars are.

Cascais is primarily a maritime town with good bars in both the center and the marina.
