Decky
With Chelski winning the FAC, do we automatically go into the play-off round now? 5th place is the play off round. The FA Cup EL spot is for the group stages, which Chelsea now have. However if they win the CL then that spot will go to the highest placed EL qualifier i.e. the team that finishes 4th. Super Duper Branko Strupar
Anywhere but Russia for me. Don't fancy having to pay £130 for a visa. But as many teams with big grounds as possible would be ideal I guess. They probably would't let you into Russia due to your skin colour.
MKSC
English European Competition Qualification 2011/12 - Updated 07/05/12 1st Champions League Group Stage (currently Manchester United) 2nd Champions League Group Stage (currently Manchester City) 3rd Champions League Group Stage (currently Arsenal) 4th Champions League Third (Final) Qualifying Round (currently Tottenham) 5th Europa League Third (Final) Qualifying Round (currently NUFC) League Cup Winners Europa League Qualifying. (Liverpool) If Liverpool qualify via League Position this slot goes to the highest placed team not qualified via other means. FA Cup Winners Europa League Group Stage (Chelsea). If Chelsea win the Champions League the Europa League Group Stage spot will go to the highest placed team not qualified for the Champions League. (5th or 6th probably)This has been clarified by a bloke who works at UEFA, who knows a bloke who knows "withabrick". How can NUFC get in to Europe? **UPDATED** Champions League: NUFC Finish in the top 4. Unlikely. Less unlikely than before, but still pretty unlikely. It might just f***ing happen. BELIEVE [/Rich] We need to win our last game at Everton and hope Spurs drop points (Draw or Lose) OR Arsenal lose to finish 4th, or BOTH to get 3rd. 4th does not guarantee CL as Chelsea could win the final and claim the final spot. Europa League: NUFC finish 4th and Chelsea win the Champions League Final NUFC Finish 5th NUFC win FA Cup NUFC reach FA Cup Final but lose to Champions League Qualified Team NUFC finish 6th NUFC finish 7th and Chelsea win the Champions League* *The current understanding is that should Chelsea win the Champions League and finish outside the top 4 they will take the 4th CL Qualifying place. The team finishing in 4th will be given a place in the Europa League, this will be in addition to the 3 Europa League places awarded to England. Everton could still finish in Europe if they Finish 7th and Chelsea win the Champions League. Eh? how? Chelsea would get the 4th CL spot and as compensation the 4th place team would be granted a EL place. This would be an ADDITIONAL place and not take away from the other ones awarded to the English FA. It would go a bit like this. 1 Man Utd/Man City - CL 2 Man City/Man Utd - CL 3 Arsenal/Spurs/NUFC - CL 4 Arsenal/Spurs/NUFC - EL - Additional Place 5 Arsenal/Spurs/NUFC - EL 6 Chelsea - CL as Winners 7 Everton/Fulham/Liverpool - EL - FA Cup place allocated to highest league place 8 Everton/Fulham/Liverpool - EL - Carling Cup place. Everton or Fulham could finish 8th and get it as long as Liverpool come 7th. If I've missed anything, and I probably have, feel free to let me know. The bottom line is that we are now guaranteed Europa League next season. Well done everyone at NUFC OP Updated
Unbelievable
So Everton and Fulham are both still in the race for the last European ticket? Should make the last round even more intriguing as they will have something big to play for in their matches vs us and Spurs respectively..
Unbelievable
Everton and Fulham can't get in now as only get the additional place if the CL winners didn't qualify for any European place through league or cup. That's not what the (ammended) OP says. Everton or Fulham could finish 8th and get it as long as Liverpool come 7th.
bowlingcrofty
It does seem bizarre that England would get an additional place in the EL because we had a team win the CL. I always just assumed that Chelsea would take the 4th CL spot, so the League EL spot would go from 5th place to 4th place, and 5th place became EL due to the FA Cup place going to league. Ah well, never mind. We're in Europe. All that matters.
Unbelievable
Yeah it's not right. It didn't really affect us once we weren't going to be caught by Everton so don't think anyone looked into it that much. Seems to be a lot of confusion about this: http://www.nsno.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,23098.15.html http://www.friendsoffulham.com/forum/index.php?topic=21811.
Unbelievable
http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/Regulations/competitions/Regulations/01/63/02/44/1630244_DOWNLOAD.pdf 2.03 a if anyone's interested. Been confirmed that rules haven't changed from last season, only difference from last year is FA cup winners get spot straight into group stage. Subsection b covers this situation does it not? Seems to suggest the FA could claim another EL place for the team that finishes 7th (or 8th if Liverpool finish 7th)..? Edit: nevermind..
Guest
I don't get how they'd give an extra Europa League place rather than Champions League? Strange ruling.
JH
I don't get how they'd give an extra Europa League place rather than Champions League? Strange ruling. Probably because it's unfair to deny one team a place in Europe just because someone else in that country wins the Champions League. But they can't give more than four places to one country, so give a Europa League spot instead?* *Complete guesswork.
STM
When most leagues have ended can we have a list of the teams we may end up playing? Can't wait to see who we might play in the Europa next year, (deliberately not mentioning the champions league).
Decky
I thought if Chelsea win the CL, they basically swap Europe qualification places with 4th rather than there being an extra place? Having said that, the CL winner gets into the CL group stages, and 4th is a play off place, so that would give England 4 group stage places? What happens to that spare place in the play off? Can't wait to see who we might play in the Europa next year, (deliberately not mentioning the champions league). As it stands these look to be the likely participants from the other big leagues: Bayer Leverkusen Stuttgart Hannover Lazio or Udinese Napoli Inter Milan Lyon Marseille Rennes Sporting Lisbon Marítimo PSV or Feyenoord AZ Heerenveen plus the winner of the Dutch league's Europa play-offs. La Liga is still wide open with just 4 points seperating 5-10, currently Atletico Madrid and Mallorca look like going through, but both could snatch fourth place from Malaga on the final day. Bilbao will definitely go through as cup runners-up.
bowlingcrofty
Inter in the San Siro again would be amazing
Tiresias
Inter would be both amazing and scary. Especially if they're getting better again next season after one to forget. That said if they're still using mostly the same team of old farts Ben Arfa would rip them to shreds
Yorkie
So, at present, in the play-off round (which is what we'll enter if we finish 5th) there is: Stuttgart, Sporting, Metalist, PSV, AZ, Alkmaar. Yikes, quite a pool already.
AliGupter
Fucking hell, going to be a short European trip.
Anderson
I wonder if we'll start to see an increased interest in the Europa starting from next season? Both our top two clubs were briefly in it this season, next season it'll be Liverpool + two from us/Chelsea/Spurs/Arsenal and there's plenty big names from Europe in there next season too, even before the Champions League drop outs. Decky
It would be fucking shit to lose in the play off after this season Some tough teams in there.

bowlingcrofty
Isn't there some sort of seeding where teams who enter at the playoff round play teams who have qualified from 3rd qual round?

One of the Italians as well (Udinese/Lazio/Napoli/Inter), actually two of them assuming they'll get out the preceding round no bother.
