Mike
The petulance probably relates to being a bit sick of football in its present state. It's really quite shit if you think about it. The trophy-winning club is all but a closed shop with a buy-in deposit which prices out all but the insanely wealthy. Which is why playoffs should at least be discussed. Let's look at the last 20 years. http://i.imgur.com/Ej93Q.png Five different clubs in 20 years. Now compare that to the last 20 years of playoff sports. http://i.imgur.com/YTwvQ.png 12 different champs in 20 years. http://i.imgur.com/tnkZo.png 8 different champs in 20 years. (Note: The NBA might be the most corrupt league on our side. It's unbelievable what happens in the postseason.) http://i.imgur.com/qSNu0.png 13 in 20 in the NHL http://i.imgur.com/upnyv.png 11 in 20. http://i.imgur.com/h3LaK.png 9 champs since the league started. Fuck tradition.
SEMTEX
Lovely screenshots, but IMO that's not so much because of playoffs, it's because of salary caps and drafts. Talk up a salary cap, and I'll consider not poo pooing your screenshots.

Talk up a salary cap, and I'll consider not poo pooing your screenshots. Baseball has no cap and the draft is essentially the same as buying youth players that generally have no impact on the season in which they were drafted. Baseball went from essentially no playoffs (best team won) to a playoff (Best team in AL and NL played WS) to full playoffs and two wild cards and the game hasn't suffered. Tradition is bullshit. How could baseball suffer? The game is completely devoid of excitement in the first place. The only reason people watch is because of the playoffs being random and 'fun', having sat through a 2,430 game war of attrition.

Mike
Bias aside, playoffs probably saved that sport. As a Yankee fan, I'd love an EPL system. We'd win every fucking year! To me, the best team isn't the team that was best over the course of the season, it's the team that got it done in the biggest moment. I think this might be the sticking point. This year, the two teams with the best records (NL and AL) got fucked up in the playoffs, and it's a beautiful thing. They didn't deserve to play for the title, because they couldn't win when it mattered.

Mike
This thread went American quickly. I just think a system that could lead to a team's season being over in preseason is broken. Most teams are a few injuries away from not giving a shit about the league.
thedudeabides
No wonder other clubs label us as fickle. Would love to have seen some of you fannies deal with some of the genuine shit some of us had to suffer in the 70's and 80's. Managers are defined at times like these, but so are supporters. So time to grow a pair you gutless, shit haired FIFA 13 conts. Anybody fancy a game online later?

LesPaul
Things going wrong? SACK ALL THE MANAGERS! At least give him long enough to sort things out first ffs. That's why we went through so much shit over the last few years. Lets give a manager some time for a change? eh?
