ah the good old days of PK  you changed my mind ronnie. i do want fat fred back.

Not trying to change anybody's mind, just Kluivert's a very poor example of what you're trying to convey about the FS era. Kluivert was a very good footballer and getting him was an astute piece of business given his pedigree and what we needed at the time - a replacement for Shearer. He could and should have been a success here.

He was overweight, over paid and over here just to top up his pension. Surely just the type of player we didn't need then, and will never be interested in again under the current regime.

Agree with Ronaldo regarding Kluivert.

So do I, if it wasn't for appointing Souness he could have been brilliant for us.

At that stage in Shearer's career, when Kluivert played up front with Bellamy they were just on another planet to what Shearer could do, he was completely immobile.

And Souness got him (Shearer) to sign another contract just so that he could break the club scoring record.

Bobby Robson was quite happy to sign Kluivert, it would have been interesting to see how he'd have used him, although by then Bobby was losing control of the squad to some degree and Shearer wasn't happy about Kluivert threatening his position much.

There has been criticism of the tactics. Pardew got rid of the 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 formations that brought them success last season and deployed a more fashionable 4-2-3-1.

The major problem is, it does not seem to work. Mainly because Papiss Cisse – their only fit specialist striker – is not comfortable as a lone frontman and Hatem Ben Arfa, the squad’s only natural No 10, has been injured.

But there are also issues with other players being used out of position, including central midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who has been asked to play in a more attacking role behind Cisse since arriving from Toulouse.

From The Luke Edwards article above. There's definitely some journos getting a bit antsy with 4 games to go.

Cisse is comfortable as the lone striker though, he just works better with players either side rather than from deep.

Yep. It's good to see some pressure applied from journos re: tactics but Edwards is talking rubbish in the main. Considering we played 4-2-3-1 last year, Cisse was pretty much lone striker then and Ben Arfa has barely played as a no. 10 for us.

Coming on the back of one or two other scathing columns in the last few days.

Has Llambias pulled strings to begin the sacking process? There hasn't been a peep for months now everyones queuing up to take a pop.

Scored 14 goals.  Still more than Shola's highest in a season.
