Stopped reading at the bit about Chelsea's amazing defence.

Jury's still very much out on Arsenal's new lads as well, especially in terms of replacing arguably the two most important players in their team last year.

lmao, just lmao. They sold a shit midfielder in song and got rid of a wantaway captain. Podolski is the obvious big question mark, but Carzola and Girourd both look up for it, Girourd should have buried his chance but had a howler.

Think its time you laid off the strong cheese.

Hmm yes, closing out Barcelona with only 10 men in a champions league semi final means their defence must be really s***.

You really don't watch football at all do you Other?

Did you see how many chances Barca made? it had nothing to do with Chelsea stopping them it was due to Barca's poor finishing.

In any case Chelsea have a good defence when they defend deep and let teams come unto them but fact of the matter is they are trying to attack teams now with their new players and their defenders struggle in an open and expansive game.

Wigan created loads against them and Reading scored twice, there's nothing amazing about it.

I watch quite a lot of Premier League football and bits and pieces of other football. Thanks.

I still know that Chelsea's defence is creaky, Cech and Terry who are two of the linchpins are past their prime and for every Barca or Bayern Munich performance, there's been countless times where lesser sides have opened them up regularly.

Chelsea kept 5 Cs last season from 20 games under Di Matteo, they are far more vunerable at the back when they look to attack sides. Ofcourse theyre better at the back when they go defensive, how often do they approach games like that? Their side is full of attackers.

And now some of you want us to overspend. Again. 15-16m for De Jong, 7-8m for Debuchy and 5m for Douglas (whom all my dutch mates say isn't that good) reeks not of a club trying to be ambitious, but of classic Freddy Shepherd overspending in the short term for a hopeful but small chance we will make the CL. (we won't, at least not for another year or two realistically)

As said. If this is it. It really shows Ashley´s lack of ambition. We have spent about £5m, and we came 5th last season. Name one club that have spent less! And tomorrow we are up against a club that spent +£50m.

Though I will give him the hard work at the development squad, looks really exciting.

A lot more than that and it's Chelsea ffs, we and most others were never going to spend near them.

If we don't get a couple more in it will feel like a massive wasted opportunity but lets not get silly.

What´s our net spend since we came up? Surely we have sell more than we have bought for?

More than likely given we got £35m just for Carroll.

And we want to be a CL club

It is very impressive what we are doing and have done. But think what we could have done if Ashley put in just £10m every summer. That is frustrating.

I'd like to think that most sensible people can see a middle ground between 'showing no ambition' and 'overspending like Freddy Shepherd'. It's not one or the other. Perfectly possible to want the club to do more than it has so far without demanding bankrupting the club or spending what we can't afford.

Expecting a deadline day "race against the clock" for Carroll which ultimately comes to nothing, and little else. If it stays as it is, it will have been a pretty underwhelming window in which we could have pushed on and strengthened the first team  ( right back) and the squad (Striker,CB?) significantly, but failed to do so.
