Guest BooBoo
Been a shite transfer window, we can say it now. Couldn't give two shits about hanging onto anyone; that should have been the absolute bare minimum. I don't know why Pardew kept going on about it so much. Not signing a striker to replace Best and Lovenkrands could prove to be an absolutely massive error. Other than that, we've simply stood still whilst our nearest rivals have strengthened. A couple of them significantly so. Our first choice side is still extremely good when played in the right way, however we don't have the depth to compete in several competitions. We can still have a good season but my gut reaction is that we can say cheerio to any Champions League attempt, and i can't see us going far in the cups. Which is absolutely gutting because it was in our grasp with a bit of investment. We've had worse transfer windows but this one still stinks. Preach. Mick
If I didn't want to sell my house but my wife did maybe I would make excuses why we shouldn't (this is getting ridiculous now). The ridiculous part of it is the lengths you seem willing to go to defend the club, you seem to be in denial that we knew a fee and failed to match it. S.S.R.
I imagine Mike's e-mail inbox is littered with "You did not win the item you bid on" alerts from Ebay.

Guest neesy111
I'm glad I got my frustration out earlier. Though the way some people are defending the club tonight is ridiculous.

Don't understand the "At least we didn't sell anyone - cheers Mike!" that Pardew has been banging on about. Congratulations NUFC - you managed to hold onto what you already owned. Mike
People are blinded and have been brainwashed/duped after one good season. "We've kept our players. Yey!!" We didn't take a big step forward, but isn't this one of the first windows in recent memory where we haven't taken steps backward? As long as Pardew doesn't resign tomorrow, we come out of this smelling alright.

Jayson
People are blinded and have been brainwashed/duped after one good season. "We've kept our players. Yey!!" Cmon man Coming from the guy who claimed GB was rubbish at sport to the point it was getting embarrassing directly before our most successful olympics in recent history. Yeah, you're never negatively biased.
Cajun
So we are going off what the media reported us to bid ignoring quotes from the selling club (said they wouldn't sell unless they replaced with equal quality, which they didn't) and player (said club kept giving him contradictory reasons as to why he couldn't leave)? I'm done with this tbh, believe what you want to believe, personally I think it's moronic to believe there was only £500k-£1m difference between us signing the lad or not. I also believe we should have had other options when it became clear they wouldn't sell for the record (again). They didn't have to get a replacement of any kind because we weren't willing to pay them what they though he was worth. And I do think they would turn down a bid which falls below the valuation they put on him, why wouldn't they? They were the ones who told us and Debuchy they wouldn't sell BEFORE they had a replacement of equal quality in. What were we supposed to do? Have a plan B? If you are going to get involved at least read the rest of the posts, I have clearly said on a number of occasions we have fucked up not moving on when it became clear they didn't want to sell. Why ask a question you've already answered then? Surely if you ask me a question (I have already answered) directly I will answer it even if you too ignorant to read it for yourself? I didn't ask you a question, I answered it. Apologies for assuming you wouldn't ask questions you've already previously answered. So we are going off what the media reported us to bid ignoring quotes from the selling club (said they wouldn't sell unless they replaced with equal quality, which they didn't) and player (said club kept giving him contradictory reasons as to why he couldn't leave)? We didn't take a big step forward, but isn't this one of the first windows in recent memory where we haven't taken steps backward? As long as Pardew doesn't resign tomorrow, we come out of this smelling alright. The investment of other teams could well see us go backwards tbh. The Premier League is responsible for half a billion pounds-worth of transfer fees, and we're responsible for £3m of that. We, and other teams, have done this before and it never works to just stick with what you've got. Even the European Champions have blown £80m on new players. Even the title holders have spend a shitload. its a 5/10 window its not good but hardly a disaster the Carroll window now that was a disaster window You're right, it isn't a disaster by any means. I'm not going into 'meltdown', but i'm pretty damn frustrated. That's the overriding emotion at the moment. Like i said in that last post, we could still surprise everybody again - and i'll be astonished if we're not in and around the top 8 - but personally i think there's next to no chance of us improving on 5th. Which was more than achievable in May with a full summer of transfer activity ahead of us.

We probably won't finish as high this year as we did last, but I don't know if I'd call that a step back. Shocked that no one came in today after Raylor went down, though. That's confusing. Meeting presumably went along the lines of: Pardew: "We're a full-back down now. Any chance we can loosen the purse-strings just a smidge for one of our targets?" Board: "That isn't the transfer policy." [MAshley has left conversation]

Jack Flash
I still had a tiny bit of hope we'd bring someone in today. Didn't even have to be a "target", just someone cheap who can do a job when needed. But why bother. Really need 3 points on Sunday to soften the blow going into the International break. Mick
You tell me, you are then one refusing to acknowledge the quotes from the player and the selling club. That's a load of rubbish. I know what Debuchy has said and I've mentioned it. I don't know what was said between Seydoux and Debuchy and neither do you but you’ve set up an argument for the club without knowing it. I also know that a fee was mentioned by Seydoux and we haven't met that fee and that's all that matters. Maybe the fee was a bluff but we'll never know that will we?
