Thought about this the other day as Rafa was widely booed and mini-demo's againt him and the appointment and although they are CL holders the support seem to be falling out of love of Abramovich and his ways (gone through 7 managers).

The Arsenal AGM was full of malcontents and the general theme was they wanted a return to the old Arsenal, the old board and a lot of talk against Kroenke and the direction the club is moving in.

 

With Arsenal it might just be the lack of spending (or big names) and with Chelsea it might just be they don't want Benny's defensive style.

 

Is there a little more to this though? ;)

Think most fans, especially those who attend games, would accept a lesser quality product in favour of not being treated as customers by corporate entities and being ripped off at every turn while those who play the game move further and further away from the normal man despite being on the whole not that good.

 

That is what these fans want.

 

See the Bundesliga, albeit not perfect, for what the modern English fans want pretty much.

Why's that then? It's not about NUSC it's about the state of the PL in general.

I didn't really mean that, I just wanted to bump the thread but didn't have anything constructive to say.

 

I was taking the piss with it anyway- cos I couldnt think of anything constructive to say.

Seems an impossible idea to argue against. If we were allowed a say in the way NUFC was run I would be delighted. I feel that if fans pump money into the club (as we all know, there wouldn't be a club without fans) then they have a right to have a say in how it's run, not be completely frozen out and disregarded.

 

English football is just rotten, tbh. Personally, I don't think it will ever change, but if it does it won't be for a very long time.

No. This is just the way of football supporters. Rafa's reputation took a knock in this country after what happened at Liverpool, and that's what the Chelsea fans are reacting to.

 

As for Arsenal, they want to win trophies and they think their board should be spending more on players. No story there.

I think if he'd left Liverpool as a success, that wouldn't have mattered. They just don't think he's very good.

German football is an example to follow in my opinion. No wonder that league is growing bigger every year.

 

If they can fend of the extremist groups - much like the rest of Europe - the match day experience is superior to pretty much every other league in Europe and probably the world.

 

Also, there is so much young talent being given the chance, such optimistic football, competitive and financially functional clubs without the super commercial surroundings that are present at many Premier League clubs.

 

As for Chelsea and their fans wanting their club back. God knows where they would be without Roman.

We have the worst of both worlds at the moment really. We have the commercialisation and lack of soul of American sport, but without the customer service and match-going experience. You have to pay a fortune, but you also have to freeze your arse off in a tiny seat, get treated like scum by police and stewards, and not be able to get a cup of tea at Craven Cottage.

 

I'm not sure about fans having a stake in the club, we have such different views. Not many businesses can operate as a democracy of their customers.

 

The biggest hope I have is that financial fair play will actually work. The fact that clubs can be bought and owned by oligarchs and sovereign states has basically rendered sporting competition obsolete. Nobody can hope of winning the league any more, which is sad.

 

Luckily for football, it has enough interest and excitement on a match-by-match basis that it doesn't matter so much that the bigger picture is completely futile.
