Second-half substitute Florian Thauvin, who arrived from Marseille for a reported £12million in the summer, was subjected to the worst of the taunts from the dispirited Newcastle support, with some sections of the crowd chanting, "You're not fit to wear the shirt" at the young Frenchman.

He also appeared to be booed when he went over to applaud the travelling section at the end of the match.

"He's a young kid who's just coming in and he's got to adapt to this kind of thing and we're certainly behind the scenes supporting him," McClaren said of the 22-year-old.

For acting like a tart apparently:

With four minutes to go there was a summary of our season so far when £12m substitute Florian Thauvin fell over and went off for treatment on a non-existent injury to chants of "you're not fit to wear the shirt".

Dusting down his tuxedo with an accompanying spinning bow-tie would be more appropriate for this clown.

Incredible that some fans are determined to write him off and make him the scapegoat for the mess we find ourselves in. Should maybes concentrate on the ones who've beeb here for a lot longer & play 90mins every week and produce nothing, rather then a lad still adapting to the league whos been lucky to get 5mins before today.

I have plenty of sympathy for him, mostly because we shouldn't have bought him and it should be of no surprise to anyone that he's struggling. I don't think he's suited to the PL especially a team like us. He was bought for all the wrong reasons and it was a transfer that high lighted the absurdity of our transfer policy. It was a transfer which benefitted the transfer makers and they'll be getting more action when we try and move him on.

Totally agree with this. Directing abuse at him given how little game time he's had is embarrassing.

Mike Ashley and the club hate people questioning them and that's why they get rid of anybody that speaks out or has anything close to a character or personality, the club is full of yes men if this lad is weak and gets upset when he plays like a sissy and gets stick off the fans then that's ultimately the fault of Ashley

Say what now?

Seems very mentally fragile just wonder if theres no coming back from this.A large section of fans have made their minds up about him already so could it mean the club admitting defeat and sending him on loan for the rest of the season.

I would wager the same sort of fans that decide they're going to boo and give shit to Thauvin. Are the same sort of mongs, that rate Colback and love Dummett for 'getting stuck in' and giving away numerous corners, due to last ditch tackles. Geordie lads and all that. Lee Ryder heroes. TBH, there aren't many players thay don't deserve stick. So I find it odd that Thauvin has been singled out, fake injury or not. Footballers are tarts, this is hardly breaking news.

Oh and I don't even rate Thauvin. But it's not like he has been much of a factor in our shitness, this season.

If I'd made the 4 hour journey down and witnessed a player perform some amateur dramatics while 1-0 down in a cup game, I'd probably be fairly miffed anarl.

Ahh but its different when your fans favourite player does it.  So many hypocrites in our support.

Are they really hypocrites or just giving a player who sometimes produces more slack than one that doesn't?

Exactly. Well said sir.

Lad is not and never will be (in my opinion) suited to the fast paced and physicality of the PL. I can he see him being very effective in the Eredivise (sp) and also back in France.

Nowt to do with his nationality, just his own game and weaknesses.

So far he has shown nowt, zip, nadda and I can't see that changing.

A complete waste of money, remains to be seen if e make any dosh from it, which would be amazing but I guess not inpossible.

Of course that will tick all the right boxes for Penfold et all and we will endure more of the same.

Lad isn't a scapegoat, just the archetypal example of why we are in the shit we are.

He's the epitome of an Ashley regime signing.....to replace a lad, who replaced a lad, who had shown he could be effective in the PL...

Fuck you Pardew ya cunt.

It looked like he got a knock on his calf as he went down, however he kept flicking his hand around so I think at first some fans thought he'd hurt his hand and that was a pathetic reason to stay down.

By the time it became apparent he'd hurt his leg the fans were too invested in the 'not fit for the shirt' crap to back down.
