mrmojorisin75
Florian Thauvin was interviewed by L’Equipe and this is part of the interview as translated by GFFN: Why have you returned to a club where you had such a difficult two years of your career? “Firstly, I could not have signed anywhere else other than Marseille because you can’t play for three different clubs in one season. After that, you have to live it to understand it. This is a club that is carried by its fans. I was certainly missing that adrenaline.” Did you really want to leave Marseille last summer? “It is true that my transfer happened at the last minute and very quickly. There was a change of manager, the club needed money. It was a good opportunity for me to discover the best league in the world.” Did you not feel like you had been hung out to dry by the Marseille board? “No, no.” The beginning of your career was full of promises, the expectations are certainly stronger when it comes to you? “I need to be left to play my football, to be left to work. I still have my entire career in front of me.” But time is going by. “If I manage to take the right turn now, I can reverse things. And you can still play football at a very high level after reaching 30. I must not put too much pressure on myself.” Even after your delicate period at Newcastle…? “I had a new experience, a new league, a new way of life. It allowed me to reflect a little on the two years that I had at Marseille, to understand certain things.” The criticism can be even more extreme in England, like that which followed your appearance in a suit and bowtie ahead of a match? “In England, at each home game, you need to come to the stadium in a suit. It is the tradition. But on that day, Alan Shearer violently criticised me by saying that I was making myself out to be someone that I wasn’t even though I was not the only one wearing a bowtie (ED: Chancel Mbemba wore one first)! Why me again? I would like to be left alone…” - See more at: http://www.themag.co.uk/2016/02/florian-thauvin-gives-latest-interview-in-france-talks-newcastle-united-and-alan-shearer-newcastle-united/#sthash.qsAiRB8o.dpuf Chelping about Shearer! Guess he doesn't plan on coming back then.

Yorkie
Violently criticised. Think Shearer said something along the lines of "it was funny the first time, move on."

Hanshithispantz
What's he said wrong? "Violently critisised" is the most obvious mistranslation I've ever read.
Lush Vlad
Criticism more extreme? I can't Imagine French fans and media are much better or worse? Don't L'Equipe give some of the harshest player ratings in the world?
Dr Venkman
I have to be honest I thought the whole bow tie thing was a massively petty thing to criticise him for. He'd just arrived at a new club and was quite obviously having a bit of a laugh with everyone and just trying to fit in.

HawK
Mbemba did the exact same thing the previous week and everyone thought it was mint People probably just smiled as they silently thought he looked like the guy they'd bumped into him in the nightclub toilets the previous weekend who offered them some Hugo Boss. relámpago blanco
Every single perfume guy I've met in any nightclub has been black and wore a bow tie I have literally never seen a perfume/aftershave guy with a bow tie on. Do you go drinking in mayfair in the 1920's?

Ronaldo
He's a French winger in his early 20s so I'd wonder what the fuck was going on if he wasn't a soft tart. I don't get the criticism of the bow tie, either. Pretty rich that Shearer will barely say a word about McClaren or Pardew's shocking job performances but has a go at a young lad for a pre-match outfit choice. It seems pretty trivial but it's the type of thing the mongs in the stands will lap up in a second.
mrmojorisin75
Was the bow tie thing that big at the time? I thought everyone laughed it off as good humoured banter because of the Mbemba story the week before. Which it was tbf. If he took proper stick about that there are no words like. LoveItIfWeBeatU
Shearer's point was that Thauvin kept turning up in a DJ even after putting in some awful performances. Didn't Shearer say a clown outfit might have been more appropriate? You can have a laugh when you are doing well. Having a laugh when you are doing shit makes it look like you don't care. Figures 1-0 Football
I couldn't give a toss if our players turned up in women's clothes, as long as they performed on the pitch. I don't necessarily think Thauvin wearing a Dickie bow was the problem, I think his absolutely terrible performances every time he stepped on the pitch (apart from one game against a League 2 side) made people criticise him more. He needs to man up and be able to pick up his performances rather than sulk, if he wants to make it. The bloke has obvious skill but rarely ever shows it and seems to be another player who will only perform when the world is full of flowers and nice smells. Figures 1-0 Football
'absolutely terrible performances every time he stepped on the pitch' This myth needs to die like. How is it a myth? He was shocking. He didn't have a run in the team, which would possibly have helped - but there is no hiding from the fact that he was very poor in his performances. At no point did I think he looked anywhere near the player we should be signing for 12 million, but I think it's a canny exageration to call his perfomances 'absolutely terrible.' I disagree completely. I do not think you can label it any other than terrible when he has been at fault for some goals conceded and has not contributed to our team in an attacking sense at all other than his debut. We could have played the games without him and we'd probably have been better off. EDIT - I'd just like to add I was pleased when we signed him and hoped he'd be good for us, but I've seen absolutely nothing from him and he's wimped off to Marseille what would have stopped him from staying and fighting for his place?
