If you've genuinely judged him useless over that period as a whole then that's fair enough, I'm more worried about the impact of this season in particular on people's views. I'm still convinced he bought us at least partly for fun, and now he can show his face he is going to most games again. As long as we're on the gravy train, I'm sure he won't give a flying fuck about how entertaining it is. The financial rewards on offer for survival this season were at the front of every owner's mind. Aye that's true but if we put it into Mike Ashley context it's a bigger issue for us than that. The whole "finishing 8th as par" really illustrates the current ambition. Running a football club that has acutal footballing visions just seems disregarded. His view of us as nothing but an enterprise is shining through even more with the decision to stick with Pardew. We're going nowhere in terms of football as the natural thing would have been to replace him with someone who can work with our highly talented squad. Just look around ffs, pretty much every team that struggled this year did something about it, and they expected to be down there. We might be going somewhere in terms of infrastructure and finances but who gives a flying f*** in the end. I want my club to win and play good football so I have something to enjoy and be proud of. I know good finances are a footing for sporting success, but the board's current view on the manager's role needs to change dramatically for us to find some sort of balance in that respect. We've been bloody lucky a lot of times this season and i've seen nothing to suggest we're going to play anywhere near our potential under him. Limited tactically. I posted that last february and a lot of others were saying the same thing. We were getting results but the football was largely shocking and we were relying on 'a touch of magic' way too much. I guess I just couldn't see that we were building and progressing as i'd hoped. Imagine watching someone build a building. The walls go up lovely, it looks great from the outside but they didn't bother laying any foundations. You're saying 'um, it's gonna fall down, we need a solid base' but to the rest of the town your house looks just perfect. As a football owner Ashley's an unambitious loser and it's reflected on each of the last 6 seasons. With Ron here. Its called 1 finish in the top 8 since he's been here including NASTY fan backlash in most of those seasons, a club relegated, and a club nearly relegated. We've done absolutely nothing since he's bought the club but hired 2nd rate managers. The only good thing he's done is cleared our indebtedness to a financial institution and brought in Graham Carr to scout for us. And those 2 things are looking at the bright side. Football is a results business and we've been woeful apart from 1 season. Add up our attendance records in the league and in all of Europe and he's sold us short for quite too long man.
