Paul Dummett

Feel a bit for him, but that cameo was a snapshot of the Dummett I've viewed for 12 years. Awful, awful footballer who's stolen a living at this level.

Were those his first VAR minutes, can’t remember if it’s used in the early rounds of League Cup? If so, someone should’ve told him it’s a thing now.

Was absolutely ridiculous, you would be extremely kind to give Young 0.01xG on that spot but he turned it into a penalty.

Won't have played with VAR very often but he's got away with they sort of thing most of his career.

Thought it was generous to Howe to say it was a 50:50 - more like 90:10.  Absolutely idiotic thing to do.

Even taking away the foul, every time he got the ball, his first instinct was pass inside to the LCB. Again, he's done that all of his career.

Genuinely looked like a Sunday league player.

Always has done tbf.  He's Ashley to thank for having a career in the Premier League.

It brought back horrible memories.  I forgot what a frustrating player he is to watch.

The most limited footballer I’ve ever seen spend a career here. Always very good at defending positionally, excellent even at LB but the worst footballing ability going, and brain dead on top

Some over reactions on here like. He was absolutely idiotic and shite when he came on and cost us the win, but please don't equate his career to tonight's performance.

Aye hes shite, as most 5th choice LBs would be. The reason he was subbed on tonight was pretty obvious, we're playing an Everton side that all they had was chucking hopeful balls into the box, he would have been my choice too from what Eddie had to choose from.

But we've seen this for over 10 years. It's not new. Only VARs about to pick up on that sort of thing now, he'd have got away with that in 2014 and he's always been dreadful on the ball.

Dummett was great for us under Benitez despite being limited. Benitez often had him as one of his first people on the team sheet. Defenders who defend. There's nowt wrong with that it's just a somewhat seemingly old fashioned view now. Now we have full backs who make up an additional CM.

I just don't think it's fair to equate his whole career to being shite based on his fuck up tonight which seemingly some are doing.

Only at left back as Trippier, Livramento, Burn, Taggert and Hall weren't available to play there.

Just beggars belief that through all that Dummett still manages to find his way onto the pitch.

Would you have brought Ritchie or one of the bairns on then?

How do you reckon he is still here, and possibly looking at an extension ?

He was decent under Rafa, think ‘great’ is a bit of a stretch…

-Demonstrating the right attitude in training

-Wanting to be at his home town club

-Multiple managers seeing enough quality in him to at least offer something to the squad

-FFP

-Other clubs not being interested that would make it worth our while

All of the above. Reality is, attitude is the most important thing.
