Hanshithispantz
I don't think he should be sacked at the minute, it's not worth it. I do think he should have gone in the summer though, or earlier, and it would take a lot more than a few par finishes to make me believe otherwise. I'm still worried about what will happen if we get a few lengthy lay offs. He might finish in the top 5 yet, who knows.
BrettNUFC
Going back over old comments is truly sad Brett, opinions can change, and be allowed to change. Not saying they can't change. They should change if anything. I went back over just to confirm what i thought of people playing out this season to be awful. Yet when it's not and it's actually been very good, not much praise is coming along and it's just like we should accept this position because it's where we should be yet it was still a difficult task to get here and not this god given right because we are Newcastle. Few were saying we had that god given right before we kicked the season off, we were in a fight. Just don't get why it's being glossed over the position we are in simply for the fact a handful of clubs in the league play better football. The thing to accept though is some are looking beyond just the results, looking more long term and can Pardew sustain it, and more importantly can his brand of football sustain long term, now they may be proven wrong in time. Good season, poor season, good season, .... season ?. Now for a fraction of that (imo) the football has been ok, mainly this season for me which has been a massive improvement on last. But I'm definitely in the corner of we need more movement and attacking intent, which we'll never have under Pardew as it's not his style. His overall intent is mostly containment, not without decent stuff though as we've seen this term. But every supporter wants Newcastle to do that. What if Ashley employed someone who actually is a good manager but doesn't have the style of Martinez? Are we immediately not interested and not happy? There isn't many managers really that have the football vision of a Martinez or Wenger. If your club is lucky to have one consider yourself grateful. We have better quality in other areas at our club which other fans will be jealous of. I just can’t get my head around criticising Pardew week in week out because he’s not playing your preferred style of play. I mean it’s not like we are watching Tony Pulis style football week in week out. We do play some good stuff and we’ve had some very enjoyable performances this season. No but that's good you now don't want him sacked and are given him a chance to turn things around. He's had a good first half the season and you want him to carry it on and progress. mrmojorisin75
it was still a difficult task to get here and not this god given right because we are Newcastle. nothing to do with it being a right because we're newcastle, people were saying last year he was chronically mismanaging the quality football players he had at his disposal to the point where we came close to being relegated...lots of us believed that with the talent he had we should have been pushing to be where we are this season, most people also accepted the injuries hurt us badly so doing as well as we currently are would have been unlikely but he brought so much of last season on himself, it was unreal if this season has proven anything, it's that those of us who were saying this were correct and the people who were speculating that the foreigners weren't up to it etc. were very wrong
Guest bimpy474
Where do you think Pardew gets the ideas from? I'd say Ashley, it comes from the very top imo. Exactly & the next manager will be the same till the man at the top changes. I remember Keegan saying in his second spell he wouldn't be scared to spend £25m on a player - that sharp turned to stating we couldn't afford players on Chelsea's bench etc - then obviously they screwed him over. The last time Pardew was adamant a player would not be leaving. "100%" they sold him and replaced him with Shefki Kuqi. Funny mentioning Keegan, do you remember when he was called in because he said in a interview we couldn't compete with the top clubs (KK knew what was going behind the scenes), Ashley was furious. Look at it now, Pardew tells all and sundry and Ashley is fine with it. I understand why Pardew does it, he must know we aren't going to spend lots, and tbh i accept it. But in my eyes that doesn't make us a small club as he keeps telling us, when he talks about the club it's generally in the negative and it pisses me off. Or maybe i'm just feigning anger (as a mung just pointed out fans on here are doing) when someone runs down the club i love. I'm not sure he ever says we're a small club per se - but again I think it comes from the economic sense, i.e there are clubs out there who can make offers for our players we can't refuse. The club has pretty much always sold it's best players - whether it's wee Hughie sodding off to Chelsea, Gazza going to Spurs, Cole to Man United, Carroll (!?) to Liverpool. We had a brief period when we didn't but overall whether it's Seymour or McKeag the fans have been continuously treat like s***. Obviously some owners actually invested the money back into the team on players - some don't. Ironically he's talking about it a lot now - how we can't hold on to players - but that's what we seem to be doing. I want the club to show maximum ambition - but where we are now - where does that actually leave us? At the moment we are doing well - a manager talking s**** doesn't bother me that much. I'm sure Keegan rattled on about s**** and even Sir Bobby at times - the difference being they were both thoroughly likeable, decent people - who happened to be uttterly class football managers. I don't think Pardew comes close to either of those categories. Pardew has his limitations but overall he sees Ashley's vision of the club & Ashley's vision of football economics - I'm not sure if i'd prefer a manager pulling the wool - or a manager telling me that - to effect - we don't have the money other teams do & we'll accept the right bid for our players. I think - to summarise - I'm ranting about complete s**** - there may be some sense in there Bimpy, probably not Loads of sense in there mate, i think pretty much spot on as well. A thing you mentioned there about selling players, we dont very often tbf and i suppose to Ashley's credit if we do sell, we sell for a lot. I dont think we'll ever be free until Ashley's gone Not to sound like i want him to stay because i certainly dont, But i'd hate to an owner like Tan. If and when he does go i'm hoping for a decent owner, with some feeling for the club, i suppose i can but dream. There's worse owners out there no doubt. I think for me what's important is identity, there's no doubt Ashley has buggered ours - not as much as Tan has Cardiff's but I've no doubt if he thought there was money at the end of it he'd do similar things. Fair point, Tan is looking back home with his ridiculous stuff, very geared to Cardiff being attractive back there, no matter the effect on Cardiff or their fans. I'm confused by Ashley immensely at times, the amount of revenue we've lost since he's took over is baffling. I suppose he benefits from Sports Direct advertising so couldn't care less now. He certainly isn't in football to win owt. Does make you wonder why he's in it at all. It's weird like. I suppose we'll never really know what his crack was when he bought the club. Are we really here just to advertise? If he wishes for Newcastle United & Sports Direct to be synergistic surely it makes sense for BOTH to be successful? Who wants to associate their brand or 'life's work' with a joke of a football club? He makes crazy as owt decisions and we'll never now why. You could guess Kinnear was brought in to dissipate fans who wanted rid of Pardew - but who knows - they genuinely go to a pub to talk about stuff like this. That's where the big decisions happen. In the fucking Orange Tree. Think it shows when a rich person buys a football club as a toy they need proper football people around them, not casino managers and nutters like JFK (football person he maybe but long ago). And it certainly shows the FA's proper person test for owners is fucking broken beyond repair, Portsmouth, Cardiff, us etc. Ashley will never spell out his vision, not that i think he has one but it's truly amazing he's never said a word, it really is. mrmojorisin75
I mentioned before the season, i think he could finish 5th again or win the fa cup yet some still wouldn't want him here. also this is nonsense if he manages to put the mackems to the sword in the next derby, and we maintain decent form to the end of the season then it puts the record straight for me tbh he'll have then had an average season, a great season, a catastrophic season, and then potentially another very good one
Zero
i can't believe anyone here would not want mourinho to come. If that happens. But then Brett, in the end it is the result that matters. Imagine what would happen here if we beat arsenal yesterday. Wankers all over the place, praising the players as if they are the best in EPL and give about 5% credit to pardew. So why bother with those comments? they will be gone if pardew is getting results anyway.

Wullie also. Wullie said he would come in after each game and slag him off even if we won, fair to say he won't be winning him around anytime soon I certainly think there's no way back for Pardew with some... Hanshithispantz
I knew he could "turn things around", I thought we'd finish 8th at the start of the season and we might actually surpass that. It'll have been a decent season with our squad if things stay as they are imo, nothing more. That isn't my gripe with Pardew though, we all know what he's capable of and I don't believe his 5th place finish was a fluke, I never have done although I do think it's the height of his managerial ability. Not a 5th place finish, that is entirely dependent on the league, but the way he went about getting there, winning games with grafting wingers and players putting their bodies on the line, there's a "glass ceiling" there for how well your squad is capable of playing. I've seen with my own eyes the more dramatic problems he has as a manager too, like his inability to have a proper footballing identity stamped on his squad, not just his starting XI, which has shown in the cups and when we're a few men short. He takes far too long to sort it out too. He may have changed and he may continue to change, I hope he has and does, but all I can show an opinion on is what he's done and what he appears to be continuing to do. In short, happy to have him; wouldn't sack him for just anyone whilst he's doing well; would get rid for someone like Martinez, Laudrup or Pochettino in a heartbeat. loki679
He is very lucky to be where he is, and we as a club are very unlucky to still have him here. There is no way he is going to turn this around and finish in the top 5 again. I think he sunk too far last season. Gone by December. I don't even think anyone rates him anymore, you just get the odd person who wants to say he deserves a chance but they always go too far with it. I don't know why they bother tbh. Can't believe it's been brushed into 'well we are where we should be' with very few praising the revival of both manager and players. Revival from what, Brett? Do you think people were angry last season because they thought we should be finishing 14th instead of 16th? Well shock fucking horror, people who thought we should finish 6th - 8th get pissed off when we finish 16th but don't crawl up the managers ringpiece when he performs to par. Foluwashola
If being on course for 60+ points is classed as 'par', it's going to be extremely difficult for any manager to have an above-par season under this regime like.

Shouldn't be glossed over simply because it's where we should be, still not easy to get in this position. Pardew and the players have stepped up to mark and improved their ways. Players like Williamson/Tiote showing their capabilities again, Debuchy/Sissoko/Gouffran adapting better and return to form for likes of Cabaye/Colo. Jayson
Difficult for managers anyway isnt it. Realistically all of us want to believe our players are just class, not that the manager is raising their game. If they play poorly, often its the managers fault & if they play well the manager has stopped holding them back. People will always want to believe the current players are capable of more (unless at Debuchy levels), so as a club we can move to the next level. Its harder to praise someone for the level they have the players playing at, when you wont/cant discern how close they are to their best. Brazilliamson is at his you'd imagine. Same with style of play. Though thats more apparent when a side is really dominating before half time & then comes out to sit back. Its clearer then when we could get more as fans. A lot clearer than the benefits he may be bringing anyway.

I would say that is about 'par' tbf with this squad. Our current points haul has us sitting 8th in the league, again, looking at the table I would say that's about right, 7-8th. I'm not really sure how many points people think we should be sitting on come the new year? 25? Probably out of the European race but potentially on course for a decent top 10 finish? Again, putting the team down to embellish the accomplishments of the manager, it's what Pardew himself is doing. He's doing well like, there's just no need to go overboard.
