Ambush a guy on a night out then use the off-the-record conversation to hammer him in an article? Slightly dodgy IMO, even if you agree with the conclusion.

Of course.

You don't think it's slightly unfair on Elliot?

An NUFC employee telling people in public that Keegan is a poor manager, not as good as Pardew and that 8th or 9th is our level? Aye, my heart bleeds. You don't say things like that "in confidence" man. He's as stupid for telling an NUFC fan those views as he is for having them in the first place.

Course he is, I never said otherwise. It's just a dodgy way of scoring internet journalist points, that's all.

Isn't it a way of trying to spread the word about the utter catastrophe of the current ownership and what it's doing to our club from top to bottom?

You could say that, yes. But the principal of how it was done still applies IMO.

What principals should the Guv be held to? He's shared the details of a conversation that took place in public. What's wrong with that?

Well I would say it was a private conversation, and he's used it to publish a highly-critical article. But obviously that's just my opinion.

Did you feel sympathy for Hall & Shepard when it came out about them calling the women of Newcastle dogs & mocking supporters for paying big for shirts then?

Ian thrusting his arm in the air shouting "look at me, look at me" again, bless.

I just made one fairly innocuous point, and everyone went mental as usual.

Yep, and you are sitting there as smug as fuck now no doubt.  Job done

I'm actually really frustrated about not being able to contribute anymore. People have made it almost impossible to make any alternative points. I've never said anything to get a reaction.

Therein lies the issue I think. Everyone's entitled to hold an opposing view but, it seems, you hold a minority view on fucking everything.

Even if that was true, which it isn't, why is that not acceptable?

It's perfectly acceptable. It just means you become a parody. If you're cool with that then fine.

If the majority of people on here felt an answer was black, you'd say white.

I see. I don't pretend to be up to speed on journalism ethics.

As far as I'm concerned NUFC needs reviving, whatever works.

What a f***ing surprise.

Nicely argued.

What's the point in arguing? You're clearly being contrary for no other reason other than thats your role on the forum.

Agreed.

I do think hoying them in an article and reporting it like news is a bit far fetched. Should have remained on this place for us to ridicule him. However Ian used it perfectly to his own agenda as usual. Thankfully people are less stupid these days and can see right through him. :)

I don't have any agenda at all, I don't even want to keep Pardew any more. I've no idea why I get such a hard time for it. I disagree with loads of people all the time, but I can still discuss it properly.

Why not just have "everything about Ashley, Pardew and NUFC is evil" printed at the top of a blank web page? This is a forum FFS.

I've got to agree with Ian on this particular point. The overwhelming opinion on here is that nothing good can happen until Pardew and / or Ashley are run out of the club. Any opinion that deviates from that - however slightly - gets howled down.

That's not an exaggeration. It's getting ridiculous.

It's not the most ethical thing that could have been done

Thanks, that's all I was saying.

But you made no mention about how ethical it was for a club employee to be slagging off his team mate and former manager to a fan in a bar.

I know I didn't, I didn't mention a lot of things. I was making a specific point.

That's not very ethical either then. To pick faults with one party while ignoring the context.

That's just the problem though, I make a specific point and everyone goes mental thinking I'm trying to excuse everything that the club has ever done. It's better to just focus on the point in hand. If you want to raise something else, go ahead and we'll discuss that.

A whole lot of issues were raised by that conversation TheGuv had with Elliott, all of which you sidestepped specifically to call him out for being unethical.

I didn't sidestep anything, a lot of what Elliot said is very bad. I was just raising the question of how the article was obtained.

Ambushed ha, Elliot could have said nothing. He didn't have to talk to the Guv.

Ambushed, fucking pathetic.

Ian, you ALWAYS disagree. That's who you are on here and that's what you do on here. You have a rep for it and people will jump all over it. Don't be naive man, we're not daft.

The choice of word for it isn't really important.

Well, it kind of is if that didn't happen.

Like it or not Elliot is a public figure in Newcastle and him saying something like this is a matter of public interest.  Journalists do this sort of thing but their marks are usually too intelligent to spout off to a random stranger.

ian either a hypocrite trying to make a scene where he goes ... or he obviously puts his ego above the issues of the club.

Not much different from Alan Pardew.

Ironically I post in the football section much less than ever and my stance on Pardew has changed loads over the last few weeks, but the level of abuse has gone through the roof. I guess people have just been pushed beyond the limits of their self control by the football.

Well if you want to believe it, that's fine. But why is it necessary that anyone who says anything remotely different gets abused? It's like a witch-hunt on here now.

Perhaps you need to change your 'style' then as you are winding up a lot of people on here by the looks of it with the way you are posting. 1 or 2 people getting wound up then you could say they are being sensitive but when you are antagonising so many people with your comments then it looks like you have an agenda just to be contrary and just to wind people up.

I was focusing on the point in hand. There was a discussion between Elliott and a fan from here and you wanted to bring in ethics, so I asked what was ethical about Elliott  slagging off his team mate behind his back?
