He wasn't a puppet for Ashley and he no doubt despised the bloke but he cared more about saving us from drop than he did doing Ashley's bidding. Some times there are bigger things at play and you need to dance with the devil. As for Rafa, he saw the potential of this club and the opportunity to build it from scratch. Inadvertently, his competence gave Ashley the complacency to tighten the purse strings again which is the whole reason he ended up leaving. He was far from an Ashley minion, you could prehaps accuse him of being a little naïve, like the girl who dates a notorious bad boy cause she thinks she'll be the one turn it around and change him for the better.
