Actually, just reading what it says on the club shop, this shirt is for the launch of the album (only a few weeks late, like).

"A limited edition Newcastle United adidas 24/25 home shirt to celebrate the launch of Sam Fender's new album."

Maybe we've yet to see the launch of the 'Concert' shirt, to celebrate his 3 night gigs at St James'??!! [emoji38]

Sound like a mackem here but by all accounts Fender had zero interest in football until the takeover either. Fair play to him as he's obviously not daft and cashed in massively on it .

Not really into his music but is Sam Fender a big deal, like worldwide? He’s celebrated like he’s a global icon but I can’t say I know too much about him or why he’s so intertwined with the clubs marketing.

It’s like we know Amir Khan is from Bolton and Carl Froch is from Nottingham so they supported their hometown clubs. Is Fender more like Froch or Khan in terms of fame / success?

Tbf I had zero Interest in football before the takeover. Id had all my love, optimism and passion for the game squeezed out of me till there was nothing left. I stopped all interaction with the club after they fucked Rafa over. Loads probably in the same boat. Nowt to be ashamed about. Felt I had no option but to walk away.

He is just coming off a North American tour (not sure of venue sizes), and think he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel show whilst over there in the last week or so.

Global Icon is probably a stretch, but think he's is becoming more well know around the world.

Think the last album being co-produced by the guy from War on Drugs will help his exposure over there too.

He did Coachella, and is doing another round of big US festivals with some massive headliners. Im going to the one in Nashville - headlined by Kings of Leon and John Mayer.

Brother saw him last week in Denver 5k venue. Said if it wasn’t sold out it was close as it was chocka. Loads of NUFC shirts as well

He's not big in the USA but is getting bigger and his recent tour was theatres and small arenas. He was in the 2nd tier of the line up at Coachella

He's very big in the UK, not just the North East. He's sold out West Ham's ground next month and that's 80,000 people

He's quite big in Europe and sold out 5-10,000 capacity venues on his recent tour

He's intertwined with NUFC because he's a geordie lad and Newcastle fan. As are most of his band

And also his rise in popularity has coincided with our takeover and the new found positivity surrounding the club

And we writes songs about the reality of life on Tyneside

I imagine winning the cup and the winners shirt put this back a bit.

Not sure why it didn't, but it was definitely meant to launch back when the album was released.

Quote

As anticipation builds for the concerts in June, the club and Sam Fender are set to release a retail collaboration in early 2025, coinciding with the release of the musicians third album ‘People Watching’ which is available to pre-order now in advance of release on 21st February.

That's utter shite pedalled by Makems

He's always been a Newcastle fan and there's loads of pics of him in Newcastle shirts in the years before we were taken over. There's even pics of him outside SJP on his 2019 album cover

He's not obsessed with football and he loves music, Star Wars and computer games more than NUFC, but he's supported Newcastle all his life

Additionally, his close uncle, Jamie (a former skunker) is black & white daft. I highly doubt that Jamie's NUFC obsession did not rub off on his nephew in a meaningful way..

As I said I’d imagine it was because of the cup final/winners shirts

On the Sam Fender stuff surely a collaboration of a nufc tshirt/hoodie etc would be far better than bring out yet another version of the home shirt with the artwork on the back. Realistically how many people are buying that if they’ve already either got the home shirt

or the home shirt with winners 25 on the back?

Am I right in thinking that’s now the 5th time the home top has been released with a slight difference?

5th  it’s not even that good a home kit

I don't follow these things that closely but what are the 5? The normal one, the winners 25 one and now this one (which is turboshite in my humble opinion).

So? The club will look after itself first. They knew they were in the final and released the shirt with the Newcastle v Liverpool thing on the front leading up to the final so they were never gonna bring it out and clash with that and then we won it and brought out the winners 25 shirt so they weren’t gonna bring it out then and have it clash with that.

common sense really

edit: they released that shirt on 14th Feb they were never bringing the sam fender one out 7 days later

Absolute bullshit, for a start you don't make a journey to St James on the day of the takeover when you have no interest. So much so, that he was still drunk on a pre arranged tv interview the following morning.

Sounds like you’re wrong in terms of your Fender knowledge but with pointing out that I and many others had little interest in Newcastle under Mike Ashley. Certainly something I wouldn’t hold against him if he did.
