I'd love to hear about the decision making process behind it. I guess it's to do with visibility; i.e. making the brand mega visible even on the smallest screens, or at distance. They're properly in your face on close-ups; almost distractingly clear. Huge and super high contrast wherever possible (which explains the choice of vivid blue on ours). You better fucking believe you're looking at an Adidas product, people!

Looks like a very deliberate attempt to make the brand dominate every context it's seen in.

It's a bit enshittificationy.

Wore new long sleeved beauty to play pétanque in London fields yesterday. Comments ranged from “can I scan you?”, “what the fuck is that?” and “it doesn’t distract from how shit you are” to “tbh I quite like it” and “it’s giving me a migraine” by the end of the day’s play and evening’s drinks.

What did you wear it with?

Well despite it looking garbage from every observable measure, from an advertising perspective its an absolute masterclass....adidas have gone from a kit manufacturer that is just generally accepted to a brand/company that is being actively discussed and debated by a huge audience. They might take a hit this year due to the overall hideousness of most of their releases, but when they fix it and put it back to normal next year they will probably have record sales/profits

The cynical side of my brain can't help but wonder if the controversial kit this year is/was a deliberate ploy because they were thinking ahead to potentially a more substantial change to the crest than what it's likely to now be after that shitheap version got leaked ages ago.

So they were envisaging next year they can absolutely knock it out the park with a clean and fresh classic black and white kit and that somewhat dampens any noises about the badge (usual disclaimer that obviously many would twist on 21 etc). They'll also then use the "last chance to have this version of the badge" as a means of shifting these without slashing the price as much as they maybe ordinarily do.

So sales/profits down = Masterclass. Aye sound.

Read it properly. They may take a dip in profits this year, but will still make money due to fan loyalty. However the awareness of their brand has sky rocketed...which is the whole point of advertising.  When they return to normal styling on the next cycle the demand will be enormous.

They are taking a short term hit for bigger rewards a little bit later.

And you think that was their strategy?

I don't pretend to know. Its either brilliance with a long term view, or crap designers with management who allow obviously rubbish products to be released.

It's absolutely the latter.

Im probably being the optimist, but i can't believe anyone with eyes would approve our kit. That's even before considering the misaligned sleeves that look like Stevie Wonder sewed them on

Well it has...would you disagree that their current direction hasn't stirred up a lot more discussion than usual? Yes we might debate at length how bad our design is and 'how hard can it be to mess up black and white stripes?'. Now, every fan with a team that has an adidas kit is debating and arguing over it

Fairly confident that this shirt won’t make anybody more or less aware of the existence of adidas and literally ubiquitous availability of its products

In an absolute sense probably not. However, previously they would generally be considered 'part of the furniture'. Every one knows its there but they don't really get direct attention. They've messed around with the stripes and now they are actively being talked about
