It was my first shirt back in the day & I had Lee 7 (my favourite player) on the back. Still my all-time favourite shirt and always will be

I was going to buy a fake version of the 95/96 grandad collar shirt last year, but then saw the quality/fit of them and decided against it. Found this a while ago as I was doing a bit of research on the 95/96 numbers to print on them.

I also found this site that claims to have the old style felt style numbers like back in the day. haven’t purchased from them so I don’t know how good or legit they are.

Away 95/96 numbers

If anyone’s brave enough to buy a set and put them on the new reissued 95/96 grandad shirt please post a picture I’d love to see how it all looks.

I have the PL patches that you posted above applied on mine. They are very good. Bear in mind that 95-96 patches didn't have 'TM' next to the lions tail, so Ferdinand 9 shirts shouldn't have it but Shearer 9 and Ferdinand 10 should. 20250105_223359.thumb.jpg.0c137314699bd8dca1e1689227ffec08.jpg

Have been doing some research into this important matter by watching the 95-96 season review VHS. First minute shows Ferdinand pre season wearing a thus far unheard of variation with 'adidas' at the top of the number 9: Screenshot_20250106_001924_YouTube.thumb.jpg.ed1215c195dc6d187c72112ebdaf9ed6.jpg

Minutes later we see the first game of the season against Coventry - no 'adidas' text on the numbers:Screenshot_20250106_002126_YouTube.thumb.jpg.f11a76496f533739d782dbb80cc5ea43.jpg

Next game is Bolton away and the first outing for the away shirt - again no 'adidas' text:Screenshot_20250106_002403_YouTube.thumb.jpg.37b6848df1b760ea4d441c9c722e1d84.jpg

In conclusion, it seems the 'adidas' text was never present on any matchworn shirt.

We also have evidence of official shirts printed at the club shop in 1995 using both a shiny plastic and a felt/flock material, and namesets could be either individual letters or a single piece.

So the shiny plastic all in one namesets without 'adidas' that you can buy now at the club shop are actually period correct for getting on the remake shirt when it's released.

Be canny nice to get the remake with the period correct name sets tbf.

Still unsure wether this remake is a legit remake, as in the promo shots the material on the shirt looks pretty thin/mesh-like.

Still sure(like 80%) the original was a thicker material.

Name and number printing in the 90s was the Wild West. Pretty sure I got half mine done at Florida Print so god knows if they were using legit numbers or something they crafted themselves. Either way, I was widely accepted as being cool as fuck, so it's fine.

Brave strategy announcing this without any hint of a new player incoming soon. See how that plays out.

Why are we releasing a training kit half way in to the season?

Most brands release a new training kit for second half of season; adidas already announced for most of the "elite" clubs last few weeks.

All well and good but I don’t think Newcastle have ever done this before and we can all have our own opinions it’s pure greed and a money grab by adidas. It’s exactly the same stuff as the burgundy and white ones but in black and it’s probably the same price while only being relevant for half the time.

Does anyone really buy training wear because they want to be relevant?

I've bought a few pieces, but only when I liked it generally and would use it for footy.

I'd say money grab if we had another home kit or away kit second half of the season, but training wear I don't have the slightest issue with. Seems a sensible way to boost revenue mid-season.

What's that?

The retro home shirt.

Who’s buying an £80 training jacket today, when there is re-issue of a classics shirt that everyone wants coming out in a couple of days which will cost a minimum of £80?

Ah right, I get your point.

Sorry, mis-read and thought something terrible was about to happen.

Ashley-era hangover still going strong.

There’s no sponsors on the training gear so it won’t end up old with an old sponsor, it’s not tied to a particular season really - it’s just nice adidas x NUFC gear. I’ve no clue how it can be described as a money grab. Nobody buys it to have the ‘latest’ gear.

A lot of people & specifically kids want the latest one so now we have a culture of instead of a new one every season it’s a new one every 6 months. Where does it stop?

yeah they do. Just because you don’t buy it coz it’s the ‘latest’ gear it’s daft to suggest others don’t. Course it’s a money grab as someone pointed out Adidas are doing it with all their elite clubs. It’ll be something that soon becomes the norm.

it’s literally the same as the burgundy & the white one. Why not release it at the same time?

Id rather have that £55 black hoody than the retro kit like.
