Quite an exciting signing this if it goes through, just hope we keep Cisse and that we can accommodate Perez in the team. Hope McClaren stocks to what he's said about playing decent football.

Few twitter rumours that his agent has let him use his private jet to get to newcastle today.

Mark Douglas saying it's more than likely going to be tomorrow.

That is what is sooo wrong with football

Much prefer him to Dost. Not sure we will get Austin now though.

We won't, makes no sense to buy strikers who are not comfortable outside the box for big money when it's extremely likely we won't play with two strikers.

To be honest as we're likely to play one up due to De Jong starting the season with Mitrovic and Cisse wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Get Mbemba in and then another CB and we'll be heading towards being a decent outfit.

I'd still be disappointed if we don't get a good quality winger in.  Given the attempts to sign Thauvin though it might be on the cards anyway.

I use disappointed in the loosest way possible. I really mean my low expectations will be fulfilled.

Still think we need a winger who can actually provide the support Mitrovic can thrive on but yeah it's looking more positive than it did 24hrs ago

Yeah agreed on a winger with quality delivery, but let's not forget we probably see Aarons in that role on the left and on the right Janmaat will be putting them in too, he's a quality crosser of the ball like.

Agreed, my only issue is Aarons injury record. If he was a reliable player injury wise i wouldn't be so adamant about it, i'd still want one for squad purposes as the rest of the options are shit but it wouldn't be something of so much importance otherwise.

Big season for Aarons like aye, if he can stay fit he has the potential to be an excellent player.

I like Aarons but he's a young lad who was barely fit for a week last season. We need a regular in there who can cross from the left unless Cabella is definitely in McClaren's plans for next season.

Two signings down, 20 more to go.

At this point I would take a quality CB and start the season with that.

Especially if we don't sell anyone. Bench strength is looking pretty good as it is. But Thauvin would be a nice cherry for the cake.

Even if he is, Cabella is apparently out for 6-8 weeks and regardless of all that we'd still need someone on the opposite side to give some width while he cuts inside.

We could play a diamond since we have some nice midfield depth now. However I don't think our fullbacks (well left back options anyway) are strong enough to take on the attacking responsibility. A wide player is a must really.

Haidara would be the only option if Cabella was playing. Not ideal but probably the best we can do without signing another genuine winger.

I don't have a problem with the attacking responsibility, it's the defensive responsibility which would concern me
