Jonjo Shelvey (now playing for Burnley)

Recommended Posts

Definitely a miss yesterday, Bruno looked class but with Shelvey there he would have been able to thread passes higher up the pitch and they both are calm on the ball. Just not sure how you would fit them both in a team and then be without Joelinton's strength and work rate but a big miss for me.

Not having a go like as Iā€™m delighted we won and thereā€™s nothing particularly to criticise him about but I barely remember him touching the ball all game. Did I just miss it or was he barely involved apart from deep in our own half a few timesĀ

Heā€™s just not good enough and needs replacing in the summerĀ

Thought he was pretty quiet bar the balls over the top. Lots of him and Bruno moving into the same areas for the ball off the centre backs which is sort of to be expected I guess.Ā

He wasn't called upon to do much, but when he was he stepped up. An unremarkable performance, but nothing to complain about.

Somebody mentioned, before the game that there might be the risk of Shelvey and Bruno stepping on each others toes, and I think Jonjo's instructions may have covered this. He basically allowed Bruno to take control.

Did he NOT take the knee yesterday? I wasn't paying special attention but when I looked over I'm sure he was the only one standing??

he never did properly. Always done some random old man squat who has knackered knees and canā€™t get down on them. He didnā€™t even bother doing that yesterday and just sort of bent a bit.Ā

Does it matter? I donā€™t blame him. Itā€™s a virtue signalling gesture. More meaningful and practical things to do than this.Ā

Got to hand it to you Outremont, you came in with some tough competition but I think you might be the worst poster on here now. Credit where creditā€™s dueĀ

Seems like to be accepted here you need to go with popular opinion, practice the art of groupthink, like sheep. How dare someone present an alternate point of view!
Ā

Yeah, Iā€™m good doing my thing. :)

People are far too willing to let these things become cop-out replacements for actual systemic change. No denying it's had a big impact and I have no issue with anyone taking the knee, but I do find it crazy how quickly it's gone from:

Ā

Colin Kaepernick risking and losing a lot in a stand against racially motivated police brutality, on his own, largely against the establishment, and it being a huge talking point.

Ā

to

Ā

It being co-opted by inherently racist companies and an establishment that only want to use it for PR, it being expanded to 'all forms of discrimination', and it now being diluted to the point where it's becoming a solely symbolic gesture that's getting closer and closer to having about as much impact as Kick Racism out of Football.

Using groupthink, sheep andĀ  'virtue signalling' like you learned of them through independent thought and not through...

Ā

groupthink and being a sheep.

Ā Massive respect for Kaepernick's actions against systemic racism. Was a perfect protest in the context of American Football. The adoption by ruling bodies around the world as a mere gesture is [I don't know, worrying?]. Especially when none of them are asked to partake. Did FIFA officials all take a knee before the World Cup draw? I doubt it [apologies if they did], so they're sending the players out to do their work in the community for them.
