Nicolas Medina.

Quick search on Wiki shows he played 7 minutes for Argentina in a World Cup Qualifier a couple of years after leaving.

Also:

Medina briefly courted controversy early in his Sunderland career, after being quoted in an Argentine newspaper that he was planning to live in Newcastle (home to Newcastle United, Sunderland's fiercest rivals) rather than in the City of Sunderland.

Julia Arca and a few other Sunderland players were well known to live on Queyside.

As it happens Shearer used to live in Wynyard hall in Teesside before moving to Darras Hall.

Arca was fucking average man!

Nah, he was a good player.  Would had taken him and Phillips from Sunderland.

Phillips was good for one season!

Yep, the old long ball to Quinn and knock downs to Phillip's was figured out in the second season. As long as anyone could get in the way of that then the supply was halted for Phillips.

Phillips was an excellent finisher in his time there but was helped massively by having Quinn alongside him. Their tactics were basically lump it up to Quinn, knock down to Phillips, strike at goal. Fair play to them because it actually worked really well and they scored an unbelievable amount of goals playing that way. His all round game wasn't particularly good though. A million miles away from the likes of Shearer and Ferdinand who we had here.
