You only regain confidence by playing matches and winning games, would have been a perfect opportunity to do that against a weakened Derby team. You'd expect that having worked with them every day in training for six months so far this season, he's got a pretty good understanding on who is good and who isn't like. Harry Kane etc. Or maybe he just doesn't give a fuck about this game and wants to concentrate on the other game. Perhaps the energy required to beat Derby would outweigh the mental benefits of beating some dogshit Steve McClaren team.
