Eng don't need to play one striker till the face a top 10 side. Kane behind Vardy should have been what was deployed against an aging and one paced Russian side. Sterling has to be dropped. They think they can't play Kane behind Vardy cause where would Alli play? It was pretty clear to me that Alli isn't quite there yet although he is clearly a huge talent. We played really well for about 60min and then the subs should have been made. Vardy for a knackered Kane and Sturridge for Sterling with Lallana coming over to the left and Sturridge cutting in from the right. The pitch would have been lengthened by the appearance of sheer pace and Eng would have seen the game out. Hodgson is too fearful. Agree with lots of that in regards to subs & Hodgson being a moron. Our best attacking play came from the fullbacks, walker set up Lallana a couple times. Rose smashing it across & setting up Rooney late on off the post late on. That is independant of any diamond or 4-3-3 formation. We wont get the best of Kane or Vardy in that side unless they play together though. Kane didnt get a chance, just as he didnt get a chance in any of the friendlies we played him isolated upfront either. Vardy got a tap in against the dutch in a game we lost isolated upfront. Why isolate our strikers to benefit wide midfielders in attacking roles? They're not Mahrez or Eriksen/Lamela/Chadli who all compensate via finishing ability or superb passing quality. We had Sterling who runs fast. You're not putting Kane/Vardy in the same position they are with their clubs. Even then they use the likes of Son or Okazaki at times to support. You need scorers. Said it before but Sheringham & Shearer beat the dutch in 96, Vardy & Kane Germany a few weeks ago. Hodgson is going to miss this opportunity unless we go behind and he is forced to go for it.
