I watched the Ronaldo film the other day out of boiredom and he actually went as far as saying the Portugal team "needs 2 or 3 more Cristiano Ronaldo's"

Fair enough it was funny, but what an absolute cockring.

A guy here in Portugal that is known for faking voices made a prank call to a football related TV show (about EURO of course) after Portugal - Iceland, saying that it was Ronaldo calling, and he was apologizing for making 2 passes during the whole match when he should've shot instead, and next time he would try to aim at goal even from goal kicks. Then he finished the call saying that we had now to rest to prepare himself for the match Cristiano Ronaldo x Austria.

This is why Portuguese comedy is revered the world over.

Interpolic, why the sarcasm all the time? That's annoying.

Sarcasm reveals anger underneath. Get your s*** straight with your parents or women and stop being such a dick.

But the quality is much better nowadays.

But you can't know that, you haven't seen ALL of the players.

Not sure you need to have seen every single player play to know that the standard of football is generally better.

I don't think you can compare today's players to those from decades ago.  The standard's changed because things like coaching methods and tactics have improved, not because players have got more talented..  Who knows how good Di Stefano would have been in today's Real team, or how good Ronaldo would have been in his?  Would Messi have been the same player if he was playing in a rigid VM formation and smoked like a chimney?  What would Pele have been capable of in Pep's Barcelona?  It's pointless speculating.

Even the physics of the ball are completely different, changing the whole dynamics of the gameplay.

Pardew was onto something when he said science was against us.

I still give Xavi the edge because he was the fulcrum of those sides but Iniesta is one of the greatest ever. Find it harder and harder to place Zidane above him.

Iniesta isn't far off Ronaldo imo

Probably too different to compare. Neither are capable of doing the things the other is great at - nor for the same effect.

Aye, way too different. It's a different game with different standards. You can only judge a player based on his era

Flip everyone on the planet puts Cristiano Ronaldo in the top 5 ever, for the simple fact that it's undeniable.

My top 5 is probably Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane and Maradona. Haven't seen enough of your boy to put him up there.

Beckenbauer? Di Stefano? Puskas?

I think many would choose Xavi over Cronaldo too. He most certainly is not "undeniably" in top 5 dude

Cronaldo is top 10 I think, but just scoring goals for fun isn't everything. Especially now in La Liga when 2 big teams have been so dominating for ages..

Who would choose Xavi? I've never heard anyone say that to be honest.

I've barely seen any of the 3 you've mentioned so it's not really fair of me to stick them in a best of list.

When your job is to score goals I'd say scoring goals is pretty important. Ronaldo has done it in Spain and England too. Scored 42 at us in a season. Easily top 5 for me already, and he's not done yet. Him and Messi will be clear 1 and 2 by the time they're finished IMO.

Love that two players like that are around at the same time and I'm at the age to watch it freely.

I think a lot of coaches would actually. And I think they would choose Zizou over Cronaldo too.

By scoring goals I mean his overall impact to his team(s). ZZ scored 2 goals in WC final to win it, and scored again in WC final 2006. Ronaldo scored 2 goals in WC final 2002, and was the best player in his team 1998. These big players rise to the occassion when needed. Messi has been phenomenal in couple of UCL finals. Iniesta again scoring in a WC final. Xavi has been the key playmaker for a decade in team that has won almost everything.

CRonaldo's big moments? Scoring 70 goals against Eibars and Deportivos of modern La Liga? Oh, he did score once in a Copa del Rey final?

Sorry for Offtopic

He also scored for Man Utd against Chelsea in a CL final and one against Atletico in another.

The on vs Atletico was 4-1 penalty in the last minute of ET.. So yea he did score.

And yea he scored vs Chelsea, but then was the only ManU player to miss penalty. Not really big game player

But all opinions so dont want to make Froggy angry etc.

Ronaldo has the record for most goals in champions league knockout stages overall, quater finals and semi finals. I presume none of these are big games?

People are mad like. Just clueless.

If we're going to go by who players and managers think is the best player ever, then it's Paul Scholes.

Scale does exist though, you can be good in big games without stepping up in the biggest. I think they're suggesting Ronaldo hasnt been at his best in the biggest games of his career, others have.

Michael Laudrup is generally the guy voted by players/managers as being one of the best of all time in more recent times, Scholes was just an underused England player.
