The plane ran out of fuel  :jesuswept:

Not only that, ramours are that this seems to have happened because this company always ran on the exact amount of fuel needed meaning they always risked their own and their passengers life and disregarded wind and weather. A Colombian has come out saying he sent in papers to sue them last week as he got to know about their ways. Apparently the plane was due to land but because of emergency landing of a bigger plane they had to circulate in the air and instead of telling the truth the pilot (who apparently is a partner of the company, which belongs to a Venezuelan and runs out of Bolivia) kept quiet until last minute when he said they had problems with electricity. Reason for this is that if they land without blaming the loss of electricity they'd get a huge fine which would basically bankrupt this tiny company. I usually wouldn't speculate like this and will wait for final information, but really makes me angry and makes it all more understandable to why it crashed. :( I really hope all this isn't true and that it was due to problem.

Plenty of articles online in Latin American newspapers supporting this and a lot of expert condemning the pilot.

Let's hope it is.

I must say it's been beautiful to see the World of Sports and not only football coming together and showing support for what happened. Clubs around the world in different sports showing their support. Shows that it's all more than just a game, that it's all more than just winning or losing.

Fuel priority is also classed as an emergency, so the pilot is legally supposed to inform ATC of this and even declare a Pan if needs be. If the runway was blocked by another aircraft then that's ridiculously rare and so unlucky for those involved in this awful incident.

Whether he did is another thing though.. all will come out once the investigators have checked the black box recordings.

Unsure about the avaition laws in South America, but i think in Europe and the USA, all planes have to carry enough fuel to get to their alternate airport if the airport they are travelling to is unavailable, because of bad weather, accidents etc.

 Absolutely, but the rumours is that he refused to declare fuel at first as the emergency because that would mean a huge fine as usually that plane would've needed a fuel stop according to regulation. No idea, only what I've read and heard from Latin American news sources. As for the runway being blocked, there was a flight from 'Viva Colombia' that had to make an emergency stop as well due to leakage of fuel from their plane and since it was a larger plane it had priority. Seems like a mixture of bad luck and shameful management if rumours are to be believed.

Otherwise some amazing scenes throughout the European football this wednesday night with supports being shown everywhere.

Think it's the same in South America. We'll see what the investigation says. In any case, so many lives lost, so tragic.

If these rumours are accurate, could the pilot not have tried to land the plane in a nearby field or something?

He'd have known that the plane wouldn't make it to the airport and could have found somewhere remote to attempt to land it.

Without being an expert in the geography of where the airport is/what is around it or how easy it would be to do, just seems bizarre he would just let it run out.

Well in theory yes, but he was asking for vectors from the tower so my guess is the darkness meant he had no idea what he had under him as it was in the middle of the night and raining. Also he got a go ahead to land from the tower but the plane just seems to not have made it to the landing strip.

Terrible situation all round. Glad to see so much support being offered to the club. Cant imagine what the friends/family of those involved are feeling.

Amazing scences at Nacional's ground.

Where those gents should have been playing the game of their lives tonight  :'(

What I loved the most about them looking back at lots of footage of them is how together they were. They truely were brothers and loved playing for the club and each other. The raw passion they had for football puts so many mercenaries playing the game now adays, in Europe especially, to total shame.

The more I look into it the more heartbreaking it gets.

Is it true the plane ran out of fuel or did the pilot ditch the fuel before attempting a controlled crash landing?

Its going to be even worse if it was a case of not enough fuel to complete the journey.

Speaking at the same news conference, civil aviation official Freddy Bonilla said regulations stipulated that aircraft must have 30 minutes of extra fuel in reserve so as to be able to reach an alternative airport in an emergency
