Both of the stepped up their game last season before going ballistic this season aswell 🤔

Maybe they're actually just one person who's an absolute beast and wants to earn two sets of wages?

If Lewis Hall hadn’t been injured for the end of the season he’d be my player of the season. As it stands it’s between Tonali and Murphy. Tonali probably takes it but in terms of a player playing at their limit almost every game I don’t think anyone matches Murphy

It's so weird when a player trains to the point that his crossing is much better, his shooting is much better, and his on field intelligence and runs are a lot better and this feels so wildly unusual, i mean if murphy can do it can every other 'middling' winger? In truth reflects marvelously on his attitude, and the fact that he has got better so steadily it was hard to notice. He went from pretty useless to being a reliable decent runner who didn't really contribute creatively enough to this. I wonder is the the trick is he did it so under the radar opposition scouts havent been reporting him as a threat back and so he never gets doubled up on? He also reminds me a bit of how Pep deployed Sterling when he was good, not so much in style of play but in terms of just making sure at all times there is threat from out wide to stretch defence and stop teams just defending super narrow and deep. Turns out if you have a player always willing to press, always willing to run at defence, always willing to be direct every minute of the game they pick up goals and assists

I think it’s likely that he has become more professional in a more professional environment and that this is his natural level; which he was unable to hit when he was younger because he didn’t have the same approach and mentality to training. The likes of Howe, Trippier, Bruno and Burn came in and immediately changed the mentality of the squad. I don’t think that can be overstated when you look at the performances of the likes of Murphy, Schar and Joelinton; and even the likes of Krafth and Lascelles who haven’t played as much but have performed at a much higher level than they had previously when they’ve been needed.

Someone said it before but Rafa must’ve seen something in Murphy to have decided he wanted to spend most of his budget on him. The club was rotten though, and despite Rafa’s efforts it wasn’t an environment that encouraged an “elite” level mentality like it is now.

his all round game looks more assured now, late bloomer indeed

Yeah we know he can put in a decent cross, and strike the ball well, but today I thought he played some nice interchanges, some genuinely good touches which almost got us in a few times.

Think it’s just self confidence and knowing exactly what to do tactically through good coaching. I don’t believe players can really improve any technical attributes in their late 20s.

An entirely predictable good game vs a team that won't pressure him. I love Jacob, I rate him, but let's not pretend he isn't going to be pretty ineffective at best vs the top teams as all games this season have shown. Really, really needs to work on first touch and press resistance. Most professional players when receiving a ball know which direction to control a pass to to take it to comparative safety, Jacob seems to struggle. But he's gone 30 now so asking him to improve on this might be moot.

If we can adapt to his weaknesses as a team to get the best of him in those more difficult games, he's a player who can do a lot of damage with time and space on the ball. He really should not be coming short to do the overlap thing with Tripps vs top teams, let him run down the wing into space with the ball over the top or as a through ball and let Tripps stay back and quarterback.

He's great at crossing, great at shooting from distance, and plays with a fantastic tempo that's often on another level to the rest of our team. When Jacob plays well, we get results.

I always boo the away mascot, trying to get people to join me.

My daughter was away mascot for Norwich at Boro on Saturday. After kick off they walked us through the concourse to the away end and two middle aged blokes started genuinely booing her
