Froggy
24 minutes ago, KingArthur said: You have to take into account the level. He is a "serial winner" and 300k a week player, who seems to be doing fine/great/ok in a second tier European competition. Good for you! He has been run around in the EPL again this season. Problem is Mainoo has to be replaced and he hasn't had a strong season. Garnacho has to be replaced, and he hasn't had a strong season. Selling them now would be idiotic. No one takes Rashford with his wages, maybe on loan. Anthony you probably cannot sell for PSR profit. For you succeed next season, Amorim has to be able to get more out of players like Mount, Garnacho, Onana, De Ligt etc. These are expensive players that you cannot really sell. Like I said, top6 next season is not realistic. Top 10 is realistic. I am willing to take a bet on this. Casemiro was overweight at the start of the year and given the run around under Ten Hag. That hasn't been the case under Amorim, in Europe or in the league. He's lost weight and been much, much better. You also like making a point of it being a second tier European competition but the truth is you'd give your left nut to win it, and the winners list of that trophy is littered with huge clubs. Mainoo has been injured for large parts of this season, so a bit harsh to criticise him when he's not had a good run in the team. Garnacho also has 11 goals and 10 assists this season as a 20 year old. Mental that opposition fans are happy to criticise that and say it's not good enough. I daresay that's one of the best returns from an under 21 player in world football? It's more than what Gordon has managed this season and your fans were suggesting he's an £80m player when Liverpool were interested? Be consistent. This is surface level knowledge of our club, and well off the mark. You've went after all the wrong players. Had you criticised Hojlund or Dalot you might have been on to something. You're right about Onana at least, and no amount of coaching is going to save him. He is stone fucking useless and has singlehandedly cost us dozens of points in the league and in Europe over the last two seasons.
The College Dropout
I've always liked Garnacho but don't know how he becomes a top player. Doesn't look to have the physical or technical attributes yet - I did think he had a killers mentality or potential to get one.

It's a lazy comparison to the side under Ten Hag when the midfield was hopelessly exposed and Casemiro was being asked to sprint up and down the pitch as a lone DM. That just isn't the case under Amorim. The midfield is much more compact. The exposure in this system is coming from the wings, not central midfield. Dalot isn't a good enough wing back and Dorgu is extremely raw. That combined with a striker who doesn't score = a lot of defeats.

Yes, it would be great for Newcastle to win UEL, but not for Manchester United. Do you think with that expenditure and with those expectations winning Europa League gets you far? As far as I remember, you won it a while back and it didn't get Jose far... You seem to think like mediocrity would be enough, and maybe winning UEL or Carabao once in a while. You are one of the richest clubs in the world, winning (or even being in) UEL is a shame. It should be participated by clubs like Newcastle, Tottenham and Villa. And being "mental" about criticizing Garnacho: he has 6 goals this season in EPL. Of those 11g 10 a, 3g 3a in League cup against Barnsley and Leicester. 6 EPL goals puts you level with players like Rashford, Marmoush (half a season, Smith Rowe, Enzo (defensive midfielder) and Kovacic (DM). Hardly a great stat for someone with 36 appereances for ManU. He is winger whose only way to go past player is to run faster. I don't criticise Mainoo's performances, but the truth is he hasn't had a great season, and selling him now is not wise. Garnacho either won't be sold for 50-60 million like he was rumoured last year. They both, and your club, has had a bad season. That affects the price they move for. I don't want to start with Höjlund, because he is a championship level player at the moment. Dalot at least seems to try, but he is not a wing back. For the bold part: There is that one guy in Barcelona I hear who is pretty good. Even in the league Minteh who probably didn't know English before the season is doing better. Gordon is not an 80 million player, but he has had a bad season and has scored as many as Garnacho, while playing less. I am not responsible for what fans think, they always overvalue their own players.

So in a discussion about Garnacho's value, we're just going to ignore everything he's done outside the Premier League? And do goals against teams like Leicester not matter then? 50% of Isak's goal contributions have come against the bottom 6 sides in the league. Guess he's overvalued as well? A players season isn't defined by the league, so not sure why you're focusing on that. If that's the case, maybe we can just scrub the League Cup this season when talking about Newcastle? A 20 year old having 21 goal contributions is good no matter what way you try and look at it. No need to bring Yamal into this either, you're probably talking about the best player in the world there.

Well, if you just select the numbers you wish, of course you have to look what the numbers tell you. This is like argueing with my 4 year old. If Sancho had scored 25 goals this season and 22 of them came in UECL against teams like Djurgården, would you say that "yea but he scored a lot, why do you ignore those goals outside EPL?" No, you would say he scored agaist minnows. Marc Guiu has 6 goals in European 6 appereances for Chelsea. What a season! Goal a game! Dewsbury-Hall has 4g in 12 games. Great stuff for a midfielder! Garnacho has not had a good season. You can of course twist this as you like. He has played most games from your front 3, and has 6 EPL goals. He has scored less EPL goals than Amad, who was injured for a long while. So by this logic Diallo has had a great season? Player's season certainly is defined (a bit) by how his team is doing in the league. Point is: Garnacho's value has certainly not gone up, he has not developed and if it doesn't kick on next season, he is going to be sold to team like Leeds for 20 million. Hopefully we aren't too far behind them Garnacho - that's just a fact? How many players under 21 have more than 21 goal involvements this season? Casemiro - has been brilliant in Europe. I said he's been much, much better in the league since Amorim brought him properly into the team, which wasn't until the start of the year Ugarte - aye that's true. He's defensive player and he does the dog work that Casemiro isn't capable of anymore. Amad - anyone who doesn't think he's quality is an idiot, and he's been injured for a large part of the season The only Bruno - I don't need to talk about him. He's spent half the season playing as a deep midfielder and has more goal contributions than your crown jewel striker Also mate don't be silly, we're not doing well in the league. We have a keeper who throws goals in, we have a CB collection that can't stay fit, we have wing backs who are shit and a striker who doesn't score goals. Two managers, two new systems, European football to deal with etc. etc. We'll see you next season son. The ghost of Fergie will spur us on.
