Surely reporting stuff based on who pays you is terrible in itself

Why?

He's not a journalist. He has no ethical wall.

He reports on football via twitter/youtube.

If he posts - someone involved has informed him or he's got it from another reputable source 99 times out of 100.

Right. I'm not one for conspiracies. I'm cynical, but I don't usually go that far. But there's something fucked up going on with Spurs and Fabrizio Romano this window. He's putting over De Zerbi as some sort of ultra-motivated mastermind with ambitions to conquer world football, adamant about not letting key players leave. If you search Fab's tweets using "Isak", "exit", "stay", and "keep", there's NOWT like that in his posting history. He never once tweeted, as far as I can tell, something like "Newcastle insist that Isak stays". It's just stuff like "If Newcastle open doors to exit".

No conspiracy, he's a client journalist.

It looks like he's not paid by Newcastle so he has nothing positive to say beyond black and white facts. That's fine.

Someone at Spurs is paying him so he bigs them up.

I don't care.

Exactly this reason I wouldn't be hanging off his every word. The man is a paid shill and will put out what he is paid to put out.

Mind, I wouldn't say any football 'journalists' are much better at this point.

Not saying you are btw, just a broader comment.

This seems like a weird contradiction in stance from you. You come across as someone who cares about perception and reputation within the football ecosystem. This guy is actively skewing that for the highest bidder. We've effectively been on the receiving end of a smear campaign by some of the biggest clubs in England, with this guy as the weapon of choice. I understand that it's outside of any of our remit to do anything about it, but being so apathetic to it feels off. It stinks, and it's one of the biggest, outward facing symptoms of the horrific state that modern football has found itself in. Money dictating public opinion is a reality, but that doesn't mean it's acceptable.

Even most local reputable journo's have relationships with clubs or agents/players. They write long prose of propaganda and misdirection.  Under the banner of journalism. That's worse.

Romano mainly posts factual things on his page. Or things someone has clearly told him to say. I don't go on his page frequently but I don't understand why he makes people upset. The "he only wanted x" is clearly an agent line.

Where have I ever said that? The only thing I can think of is the Isak deal making us look bad - it signalled we were not going to be big players any time soon and I believe that to be true - but there were other leading indicators that was inevitably the case e.g. not giving him the new contract the year earlier.

I am rarely upset by other people/entities acting in their own best interest. Agents want the best deal for their player. Clubs want to look like they are doing their best. Romano wants $$$ and a great reputation for breaking stories.

We have rich owners that could use Romano - for whatever reason they don't do that.

Again, I don't really read his stuff. Much of what I do read looks to be reporting things that are seemingly true as of the moment. No deal atm for VDV. Anderson close to going to City. Genuinely, what is there to be upset about? Where is the smear?

Modi Dhruv GIF

He's a muscular little feller, looks like he spends time in the weights room. I remember Gordon putting his good availability record down to never trying to get big and putting strain on his muscles.

Tottenham have already spent some money on players this window, Said El Mala (50M euros), Jan Paul van Hecke (60M euros), Marcos Senesi (he's free) Andy Robertson (he's also free)

Part of the reason I'm not in with the "why would he go to Spurs?" camp when it comes to Tonali. They'll have 6-7 pretty big signings this summer and have the capability to pay more wages than we can.
