Apparently the switch in formation was down to long-term fitness levels. The fitness team looked at the stats and concluded that if we played the way we were playing at the beginning of the season for the whole year, that the players would all be knackered by about now.

Really! What did they say last season when we played 53 games in total (often 2 per week)?

Our striker options aren't working so you do wonder whether Mitrovich would do any better, but he doesn't play as Rafa wants so it won't happen.

A lesser manager would possibly be more pragmatic and change his approach to try him, but Rafa won't. I have sympathy as his approach/methods have won a lot of trophies and it's not his fault he wasn't given what he needed. Unfortunately that impasse doesn't help much unless he's backed.

We had a bigger and better (comparative to the league) squad so we were able to rotate quite a lot. We don't have the squad to do that in this division.

There probably is a legitimate question to be asked about Rafa's tactics at some point in the future, like Mourinho, his defensive style could be considered outdated in the modern game, but first of all you need to have the quality of player. I really don't know how you could play a more attacking style with this squad. We'd just end up making fools of ourselves like West Ham under Bilic.

This makes no sense to me at all. If anything it would make it easier on our midfield and defenders as there's arguably less ground to cover. Merino doesn't look quite the player he did in that early period when we were getting points on the board.

I don't get the blame for Rafa, I really don't! Imagine being a mechanic, you've been working pit crews for years, McLaren, Ferrari, etc... but you've had enough of travelling the world and you want to go home. You go for a job at a local garage and it's the only one in the town and has a huge list of customers in it's catchment area but it's been doing shite because the owner got some money off his dad and thought he could run something he knew nothing about. You reckon you can easily turn it around and the place could make a fortune, you're an amazing mechanic why wouldn't it be easy? Then you find out the last guy to run the place broke all the tools and with his last budget he went out and bought a couple of dildos!? So you ask the owner for some money to buy some new tools, but he makes you sell the old ones for scrap first and only gives you £10 to go to Poundland and you have no choice but to buy a ratchet multi-driver, a size 10/11 spanner, some gaffer tape and a spirit level. Obviously you have massive issues trying to fix any cars and they keep coming back broken, when you try and explain to the customers you've been screwed over with the tools in the box you get told you shouldn't have spent your money on all that crap and just got yourself a really good spanner for the full whack, but what good would that have done without any other decent tools? Has this guy suddenly become a shit mechanic?

He shouldn't be sacked because he's by some distance the best manager we could ever have, I don't even know why anyone would even contemplate the idea.

Because unfortunately there actually are a fair few people in our fanbase who seem determined to uphold the stereotype of the deluded Geordie. It's canny eye-opening and unbelievably disappointing. Thankfully it still seems to be comfortably in the minority. As an aside there seems to be a high correlation between criticising Rafa and having poor grammar as well.

Even if we get relegated I wouldn't sack him although I think he'd walk.

So in your eyes hes basically untouchable if he takes us down whos fault is it then?

Mike Ashley is at fault.

The only clubs you can logically compare us to in terms of finance and quality are Brighton and Huddersfield, because the rest have had a head-start on us with 2 seasons to build on what they had when we were relegated. We missed out on that TV money. We then sold to buy in the Championship to get us straight back up, and Rafa was given minimal funding when we actually came back up. As of the summer window, both Brighton and Huddersfield have a net spend that is £15m higher than ours, and yet they're only 3-5 points ahead of us in the table.

The fact that we're not bottom is a fucking miracle, and a testament to how lucky we are to have someone like Rafa right now.

Of course im being serious if Pardew or McLaren took us down over 38 games whos fault would it be. Yes hes been dealt a shit hand and had the rug pulled from under him but if over the course of a full season a team is relegated the manager is at fault for it in my opinion

Was it not Moyes fault that the mackems went down last year or Karankas/agnews for the boro

Look idiot just because I choose to question Benitez does not make me any less of a fan than you are. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and you spouting shit like deluded is ridiculous. Im just not completely blinkered and in any operation in life if your team fails the buck stops at the manager or coach. If my team at work were underperforming and not getting the results expected it would be my fault no one elses and id likely be fired for it

There's a difference between managers not getting the best out of their teams and managers getting more than the best out of their teams and the players just not being good enough though.

I'm sure someone made a great analogy about a mechanics or something somewhere on here. Hits the nail on the head.

Also, the buck only stops at managers because the people above them call the shots. It'd suit Ashley to sack Rafa if we went down to pretend that it wasn't his own inadequacies that caused it. When the reality is the same mistakes have been made for a decade so it should now be obvious what the issue is and the person who is responsible. I cannot believe that as fans of our club, said fans still cannot see this.

Whether people like his style of football or not is irrelevant too, Benitez is the most qualified manager Newcastle United has ever had. For me it is a little bit short sighted to put the blame at the players and / or managers feet when they're simply doing the best (if not better) than can be expected.

You're either a complete moron or a WUM or both. Having a debate with you about it is a complete waste of time because you ignore the answers you're given time and time again, then ask the same question the next day. You've been told whose fault it is and you've been told why all of your arguments are worthless. Accept those opinions/answers and wind your neck in, man.

Been told man [emoji38]

Fucking hell Nazi N.O

Nah, if it's the same person asking the same question and getting the same answer time and time again from different people, it's not everyone else's fault that the lad's a complete dunce.
