Looks like a different player to last season.

I think we just have to conclude he's better than he was. Anticipation has improved, too, so I guess it's not just that he was injured previously, or whatever.

Not perfect, but nothing like the shambles I was bracing for a few weeks ago.

In 6 appearances. Unreal to be honest, defence have looked more comfortable with him in the sticks. Had to graft harder last night. Up the Marty D

He's made a huge difference to the defence - they all look so calm and relaxed and not afraid to pass it to him no matter in what situation - there was an incident yesterday when Pope would have wellied the ball in to the Milburn stand but Dubs took a touch and played a lovely ball to Hall and off we went attacking!

He's definitely helped us playing out from the back. The amount of ground Tonali covers in front of the defence and his added pace vs counter attacks has been much a bigger factor in us conceding less though, imo

Looked like a lumberjack had taken an axe to him diving for that second Bournemouth goal. Good passer though, not to worry eh.

Pope cannot come back soon enough.

I don't think we can sustain opponents not taking semi threatening shots for the rest of the season.

Im waiting to watch the highlights because I thought exactly the same in real time, looked like a bag of cement.

Hopefully Pope back fit next week

Dubs has some weaknesses no doubt. As has Pope.
Neither is good enough for our aspirations since their deficiencies affect the way we can set up (on separate facets) unfortunately.
If PIF could invent a machine where we could melt them down and combine their strengths we'd still be short of aerial dominance but that'd be better at least.

I think the biggest benefit he has brought since coming back in. Is his ability to bypass the first wave of the press with those 30-40 yard chips and diagonals.

We barely went back to him today and when we did. It was just to move it onto the other CB most the while or the occasional long ball.

I’m not saying it would have been perfect or come without problems. But thought we might have tried to work that a bit more and give the likes of Joelinton to contest balls if we didn’t have an open man.

Especially as every single one of our defenders couldn’t live with their press and were making unforced errors to boot. Probably seeing ghosts after getting hounded every time they got the ball.

Faces any sort of decent shot and concedes. Shock.

It could easily have been 7 or 8 if it wasn’t for him - the very least of our worries yesterday

The Man Utd move has definitely affected people’s opinions

Not really a surprise when talk was of him leaving on a free and it was just saving wages. Utterly pointless in that case.

Wouldn’t even be shocked if come end of season, it’s Pope we try and move on and give Dub a new one year deal.

My only guess is that the Saudi club have been given a word from PIF and they will sign him in the summer. Sounds like Dubz will get a little bumper pay to stick it out until end of season. All good to me.
