Someone does need to do media duties etc.

Comes to something when an FA agrees to let players picks the tactics etc ahead of backing their coach.  Shows how bad he's been.

Sampaoli's looked and sounded like a castrated man from the start of the World Cup tbh. He was interviewed as saying that Messi transcends managerial instructions before the first game. Even as someone who probably agrees with that in the main, you don't want your manager saying that, like. He just sounds like a proper pushover.

Bad memory, but was it any different at the last World Cup? Felt like the players (Messi) were running the show then as well.

EDIT: http://www.skysports.com/football/news/12026/9356463/world-cup-argentina-coach-alejandro-sabella-accepts-lionel-messi-criticism

It wasn't much different.

nah, the manager knew they were shite and set them up accordingly, if messi didn't have a decent tournament they'd have gone nowhere

They certainly had a better team 4 years ago, it wasn't the best but as triggs says they could defend at least.

Just meant in terms of how things were run - the manager was effectively a puppet then too.

The WC with Jonas at right wing back and Maradona as manager will forever be my favourite Argentina.

Didn't Maradona say something like "Messi, Gutierrez and nine others" [emoji38]

Yeah, then dropped Jonas after 2 games.

Before this tournament they went 3 tournaments ( 1 WC and 2 copa Americas) without losing in normal time (lost in extra time, penalties)

They maybe some structural similarities but in they didn't really look incapable of winning, which is the case in this tournament so far.

Messi's essentially been keeping that team afloat since post WC 2010.
