I don't believe he was key, but we've had this debate too many times on here.

Fair enough, I do think he was key that year but as you say it's been debated before.

Longstaff is without doubt a PL player, imo. Too good for the Championship. Would even say he's better than a team battling for relegation.

Just not one that dominates the ball. For a team that doesn’t have a lot of the ball he’s perfect

Hes absolutely fine for a side that's main objective is to be hard to beat. Somewhere like Everton under Moyes would have been perfect.

Once you start playing higher up the pitch, hes very limited.

I think it'll be next week he leaves.

I think Eddie will want to keep him around the squad for his tournament and cup winning experience whilst the Adidas Trophy is still to play for tomorrow.

Long time ago since him and his brother were up and coming players and now both gone .

Aye, their potential was more hope than expectation.  Neither really had the full package but Sean is a solid central midfielder

He’d already left the training camp

Wonder if him going will unlock some movement e.g. Trafford.

I can see the logic but also the flip side is having 6(? Lost count!) keepers on the books and more of our budget gone. Vlac going on loan to Betis might be the trigger. Surprised there’s not more noise about Dubs leaving.

I think Leeds have allowed him to says his goodbyes in the Adidas Cup Final.

That’s canny of them. I heard he was straight back and into the first friendly for Leeds (which I think is the same day) but that may well have been wrong or changed.

Any chance we cancel the deal in fear we can’t sign anyone this window?

No, we’ve sold him because we have someone lined up for CM. We wouldn’t be selling him otherwise

Longy is a very solid PL CM. He can play the pingy 6 where he excelled under Rafa, or the industrious box-to-box 8. Will be a great signing for the right team.

It's the right time for both parties to move on, but he has been a very important player for us these past years.
