Albert's vs Man City is really underrated as well. Superb technique

As was his one at home to Wimbledon. First time outside of the foot.

Aye but he's a defender.

He was mostly a midfielder for us in the PL after we went up - he didn’t start playing RB again until late in 95/96.  We usually played him RW or CM in the PL in the two and a half seasons before that.

The lad was incredibly versatile.

Great shout. That match is so funny like, just everyone shooting from everywhere.

If it went in would you rate it higher than Albert's as our best goal from a defender?

Think I'd still have to have it below Albert's

It'd be a great one, but not even the best goal by Fabian Schar.

For me, that's PSG.

Don't think it's the best ever, but honourable mention for Bramble's volley against Chelsea that got us into Europe via the Intertoto.

I also think I'd give much more consideration to Lejeune's bicey at Goodison, if it weren't for the context of the spawny spam fritter on the touchline celebrating one of the most undeserved points in PL history minutes later.

Both Albert's vs Man Utd and Schär's vs PSG are so similar in that they're technically brilliant goals by a cultured CB which put the cherry on an absolutely stunning cake. It's so difficult to separate them... Schär's was the better strike but the context of the ManU (and what had come before it) game perhaps just elevates Albert's?

Then you've got BDB. Where the heck does that go?

Schar would definitely be in our all-time PL XI though, comfortably too.

I'd argue that (very soon) Tripper, Hall and Schar would all be in our all time PL back four. Hall probably has to cement himself for another season.

I'd stick Woodgate alongside Schar, even though he wasn't around for long he's the best CB I've seen play in black and white.

And if Botman gets his arse off the medical table for a season we will have an even harder discussion.

Hall will make it if he carries on like this, but at the moment his contribution is well below Bernard and Enrique for me.

Enrique is persona non grata in NUFC terms. That cunt ceased to exist when he starting talking about Liverpool as his club.

Bernard is fondly remembered but from what I've seen of Hall, he's twice the technical level of Bernard.

Very harsh! He was poor in his first season when we got relegated, but the Championship season and beyond he was pretty good - he got in team of the year in 11/12. He also gave the best performance by an NUFC CB I can remember at Sunderland away, probably until Burn in the final.

The one where Tiote was sent-off early on? Was a masterpiece of a performance.

Not Schär vs PSG? It was already a 10/10 performance from him before he stuck one in the top corner from 30 yards.

We are just destined never to score a goal from our own half. Rob Lee had one ruled out for offside decades ago, this time Schar hits the bar and misses by literally inches.
