Not really sure what your logic is there. It's a perfect excuse for if things go pear shaped this season for him to purely blame the PL for everything now instead of his abysmal running of a club, last night's statement was reinforces that now. B-more Mag Posted September 10, 2020 Share Posted September 10, 2020 I don't want to defend the PL, but the rules do say if you want to be a "Director" you've got to sign a declaration that A, B, C are true, x, y, and z aren't true, and you're going to play by the PL rules. I can't imagine the PIF were like "sure thing, let me just go get MBS's sig on that real quick". But he's the head of the board of the PIF and just about all of the other members of the board are government Ministers, so it's not like they aren't literally in control of the PIF. He doesn't really need any excuses, he's been running the club his own way for a decade and never felt the need to make any excuses. The PL have already given him the perfect excuse to run it even more stingily by blocking his attempt to sell the club. Why on earth would he need to pipe up now? And if, for example, there are people that the PL could have legitimately said were/are Man City directors, but didn't require declarations of, etc., then maybe there's a case to be made that they've been wrongfully arbitrary and capricious in their application of the test. The Premier League say they haven't rejected the takeover but the process is so Opaque that no-one even knows the basics of the process. Simple questions just aren't asked. PL is never challenged on the answers they give. For example. 1. Can the premier league confirm how it is notified about a potential takeover and the process should begin. Is from the owner of the club in question or the buyers? 2. Once process has started, how is communication handled, is it between the PL and the club (which pass on details to the buyer) only or is it with both the buyer and seller? 3. If its just between the PL and Club, did NUFC at any point notify you that the takeover bid was withdrawn and the O&D process be stopped. 4. If NUFC have not notified the PL the process should be stopped, then why has it been? 5. If a buyer doesn't supply the information requested or agree with what is being asked(remember we are over 4-5 months now) at what point does the PL say, information is insufficient etc and therefore a decision is made that the takeover can not go ahead. 6. O&D tests cost money so surely there should be guidelines on how long a process can take and a decision will always be reached. Was tongue in cheek but no, the comment wasn't about a deal with the PL, more at the thought that he's used the situation to get the fans back on his side and to make the PL the bad guys. The consortium went back with MA again, but the PL have said the same thing (as per their letter) that they are still not satisfied PIF and KSA are separate entities. Therefore it is a rejection, albeit not a formal rejection which can be appealed. MA believes he can take legal action as the PL have not acted appropriately (or even made a decision). Basically, we’re exactly where we were at the end of July, but after a second attempt. PIF haven’t said they’re walking away this time, which is a slight positive. Only options available are to try and convince the PL for a third time or MA to take (or threaten) legal action and bully them into making a decision. MA expects the consortium to continue in the short term, but they (PIF) will walk away if this isn’t resolved one way or another soon. MA made the statement last night to fan the flames with the fans/media, get it out in the open that the second attempt has failed and set the scene for his hard stance against the PL.
