I quite like Murphy btw, no problem with him in the squad still but he has the same failing as Miggy in doing lots of good work but being let down at the end

AyeDubbleYoo
Barnes is a forward, Murphy is a box to box worker. You can see why he gets picked even though it's extremely unfortunate we're in the position where it's happening.
M1tche
Subs came to late, but other than that it was spot on. Have to stick with Tonali as mainly the 6, and Bruno as an 8, with them switching briefly at times. Bruno passing in the final 3rd will create us more chances. I think Willock in for Joelinton could be out best 3, would like to see how it works.
AyeDubbleYoo
I don't think Willock is tidy enough TBH. Neither is Joelinton really but at least he has the physical domination. Maybe it'll depend on the game.

Yeah I'm a fan of Willock generally, but we are getting to the stage where every player has to be great in possession, and Willock for all his pace and trickery can be loose with the ball retention. Maybe I want Tonali starting ahead of Longstaff. Yeah. Many of us (me and you included) were very annoyed with Gordon in the match thread. The difference is when he scored we all celebrated and you said their keeper should have saved it, which is just a way to continue to be negative. You either want us to fail or want to be right more than seeing us win.
Gallowgate Toon
His set up for these types of games at home is often very good. I thought he could've made subs earlier tonight, we were losing legs on the left at 70 minutes and Hall was being exposed too much. But love that we kept going, and we deserved something from the game.

We often just seem to leave the same players out there no matter how it is going or how jaded certain players look. Yet when we’re chasing. We will suddenly make wholesale changes all at once and they often don’t come off or we don’t leave enough time for them to make an impact. I Thought the game was crying out for Willock and/or Longstaff a bit earlier. Don’t want to piss and moan too much, mind. Fully deserved point against the best club side in the world at the minute. Smal
tbf before tonight we’ve gone in front first in 7 games this season and only conceded 3 goals in those games (and not more than 1 in any of them), so his management when we’ve been leading has been very effective. 80
Have to admit I'm surprised by tonight's performance. I was bracing for something grim, and was pessimistic until Schar's goal, which is unlike me. Hope this is Bruno and Tonali bedding into their new roles. Let's see if we can do something against Brentford...

Pilko
I knew we'd up it tonight because we tend to for the bigger sides, but I didn't think we'd be as good as we were. Ridiculous how opposite it was to the Palace display. If we go to Brentford Saturday and roll over like a bunch of limp dicks, this result will be a lot less valuable. He needs to figure out how to replicate that kind of showing today more often. Hopefully he's learned that Tonali needs to play at least. Well done for tonight and a Premier League classic in terms of entertainment value, was great.

Some frustrating moments still, but it ultimately got him a great goal that should hopefully get him up and running now. It's taken a while but good to also see Tonali deeper and Bruno further forward. Really looking forward to that combo against teams that sit in deep against us. Think we'll find solutions to open them up more easily now. Eddie keeps plugging away. Think he should just stick with the current midfield and Gordon on the left now and let that all bed in. We'll see what happens with recruitment as the coming windows come around. If he and Mitchell are on the same page, I could really see things progressing well. I agree but I'd like to see Barnes get five or six starts at rightwing see if he can nail the place down.

Great footballer but he's not the answer to us winning every match. The team as a whole needs to perform higher, it's not just on whether or not he plays. Yeah, it's not a bad shout, and I don't know why it hasn't been tried yet when the alternatives are Murphy and Almiron tbh. However, now Bruno is in that RCM position, it should improve things regardless of who is on that side now, until we can upgrade the position. He's clearly such a quality footballer though that he just needs to play and build everything around him, and Bruno. His inclusion should (and did tonight) help the others look better because a fit and comfortable Tonali will mean we keep the ball better and have more tempo in midfield. Superior Acuña
As people have alluded to, games like tonight don't really have much much bearing on my opinion of Howe at the moment. I expected us to do well - though we did better than I expected. A convincing win over West Ham would've given me more faith. Hope we can put together some kind of run now. Erikse
Just 2 weeks ago Longstaff got the creds for us turning the game around after he got subbed of and Tonali had come on. After we had an awful first half with Longstaff on the field not doing much. And all of a sudden Tonali getting some creds for a good game is just a narrative? Maybe we should hold both to the same standard, that would be less of a narrative. Edited December 5, 2024 by Erikse

"We win more when Longstaff is playing", wasn't that sort of framing him as the silver bullet and giving him all the creds when there were several factors involved? I say Tonali being subbed in wasn't the whole solution and you jump to calling Longstaff out...
