A few things but I think the main one this season is that shambolic transfer window, and PSR overall.

It's the elephant in the room and it's not only holding Howe back, but will also hold back any elite manager from coming here imo (if you're of the opinion that's what we should do)

We’ve spent nearly £200m gross since we finished 4th, right? Putting this on PSR is a stretch.

I don't think there's many clubs in our position that wouldn't regress while we're unable to truly strengthen the first team for three straight transfer windows, whoever the manager may be.

Agree with this and I said as much in the summer - if you stand still in this league you go backwards. But the regression is more pronounced than you'd expect.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few of our players have turned their eyes elsewhere having been sold a project that has clearly stalled, and that's why we're only seeing performances in big games and failures to turn up against the other also-rans.

However, it's the manager's job to motivate them through that ultimately, and the squad itself is still better than the mean of its performances this season.

Not going to be great for PSR if we have to give Eddie a big lumper, but think that time is coming, the league position is simply unacceptable considering the money we’ve spent and players he has available.

Eddie, Tindall, Jawal, Andy Howe, Simon Weatherstone, Simon Purches, Andy Howe & Dan Hodges would be quite the pay off

I know.

I was just wondering what elite managers you think the club might try to get IF they sacked Eddie

Going by that logic you can never sack Eddie unless you're fighting relegation.. I'd give him a little more time, and if that fucks up our season, so be it. But I don't think that he's irreplaceable.

Starting to sound a bit like Alan Pardew 👀

The interview I saw with him discussing that has probably been taken out of context. He was asked if the storm played a part in the game, he said yes but it wasn't to blame for the goals or the performance as a whole. He blamed individual errors.

I've always been a fervent supporter of Howe and still am but I really worry about his position here. I  just can't see PIF standing by and watch us going backwards because that wasn't the plan. We were hampered last season due to a massive injury list but that can't be used as an excuse now.

Disagree. I think they have MORE patience than our vocal fanbase. They are aware the EPL have shifted the goalposts since the takeover numerous times leading us to be inactive pretty much in the transfer market and actually having to sell players we’d rather we didn’t have to.

Best start to a season and a QF with potentially a SF in our grasp and that’s without the FA Cup starting which without any guarantees would look to have us in the 4th round if we do what is required. Loads to play for with a bit of luck.

Priority with the owners now is the revenue streams and maximise success under a restricted budget until rules are changed.

Cant think of a better manager to have under those circumstances than EH. Keep the faith. A good January and the picture may look very different come May.

I have a suspicion the club won't back him if there is any doubt over keeping him, if the funds are even available to spend anyway.

I don't think that tells anywhere near the full story about our PSR situation.

I can think of loads. There's only Ange from the teams above us in the league who I wouldn't have.

What has he shown why he shouldn’t be backed in the transfer window? Every window he’s been backed he’s achieved objectives and beyond.

If they have doubts over his long term future it would probably be unwise to back him. Look at Ten Hag this summer for reference.

I think this team has gone a bit stale and PSR has been a shitter. But this team should not be 12th, 2 wins in 11 and a -2 goal difference. Then again, we’re sandwiched between Spurs and Man U.

Saying all that. It’s not even the league position, for me. It’s how bad and repetitive our performances have been most weeks. In the round. We were really good most of the first half of last season and it started to go south after the Man U game, from memory. When the injuries became a massive factor.

I’ve not seen anything close to that this season and we’ve played well over 90 minutes in what, 4-5 games.

I don’t think they have those doubts. Like I say. Every time he’s been backed he’s repaid with interest.

He was backed summer 2023. From a collective point of view we’ve gone backwards since then. Last season has a tonne of mitigation of course.

He was backed in the summer and wanted to go all in for Guehi, resulting in us not strengthening at all.

 He wanted Tosin and Guehi and got neither and settled for Kelly. That’s not what I’d call backing your manager. Especially in a window he had to sell two players he didn’t want to.

Backing a manager is different to simply agreeing with his targets. You got to secure them.

Kelly was not the fall back because we didn't sign those two.

Either of the other two would have been signed in addition to Kelly.

My goodness man. Why would you even say that?

I'm absolutely certain the club will have doubts if we're sat 12th/13th come January. It really depends on what happens between now and then as to what we'll do.
