Yorkie
Yep. When you think of how many clubs have pissed away similar amounts/relative to the era, our recruitment record (of signings actually made...) has been exceptional really. Very few clubs have a hit rate as good as that.
Ginola14
I think Howe is the perfect manager for us at the moment for so many reasons and hope he's here for many more years it's nice to see him getting a few more plaudits but if form dips much then loads will be questioning him again, I'm sure it's just the nature of football fans he could win us the league this year and there would still be people calling for his head next season if we were having a Spurs/MU type year near the relegation zone sure if Ranieri can win the league with Leicester of all teams and then be sacked the following year, I don't think anyone is safe for long

Unless we just feel that the signings were all amazing and going to make it any club on their own.

I expect him to break the consecutive win record as well. That doesn’t mean all his problems last season were gone. We will know next season.
Kanj
Every footballer is allowed to have a dip in form IMHO. I'm going to not rate the summer's signings. I'd class Targett and Ashby as the only ones are "misses" under Howe. Targett because he's been unable to play for multiple seasons due to injury, despite being KEY in our survival season whilst on loan and Ashby because he hasn't featured at all for us in his time outside of preseason. Karius is a "neither" as he basically has been free and deputized (argument he was poor in the final?). Minteh for the fee. Some would argue Barnes was not a hit if they think we should have used those funds for RW, but I'd argue he's a great squad player and has contributed when called upon with crucial goals. Trippier - Hit Wood - Hit Bruno - Hit Targett - Miss Burn - Hit Botman - Hit Pope - Hit Isak - Hit Loris - Neither Gordon - Hit Ashby - Miss Minteh - Hit (PSR safety) Tonali - Hit Barnes - Hit Tino - Hit Hall - Hit Kelly - TBD Ruddy - TBD Vlach - TBD Osula - TBD Fucking CLASS record in the transfer market. A lot of people didn't like 'Back pass Batty' despite him being absolutely fucking class as well. Batty was a very good player, but imho he disrupted the flow or the team and tactics more than Asprilla by taking Clarky out of the side - this I think contributed more than Tino (who actually won us games we wouldn't have - Boro away) to us "blowing" the title, albeit combined with Man U's astounding post xmas form and Schmeichel's performance v us. Holmesy
I was highly critical of him and I genuinely didn't see him turning our poor form around without new signings, but i'm happy to eat humble pie. They key complaint was that he needed to change something and he has - Tonali has been an absolute revelation. Having a genuine #6 filling that gaping midfield hole that made us so easy to play through has been transformational. As has Murphy's form. Full credit to him. I'm back in the Eddie in camp

For sure that's true, Eddie generally does get a lot of credit for the coaching side of things though, pretty much everyone is in agreement he's a very good coach. I just don't think I've seen much mentioned about his skills on the recruitment side, which like I say he seems to be heavily part of, and we're absolutely crushing it in the department. Kanj
Reviewing signings should be circular, but it seems like every player he signed has contributed in some shape or form, was crucial / critical at one time because Eddie and the staff picked (1) good professionals and (2) coached them well and (3) the system and tactics used helped further enhance abilities or limit the player’s weaknesses from being exposed. Ie: Targett for the loan spell and Wood for the few crucial goals in the survival season.

I'd probably downgrade Wood to a neither (team did well with him in it, recouped fee, but I'm sure we'd have wanted more goals for what we paid), and put Ashby as a TBD. Can't see Ashby being an NUFC player but maybe still potentially will be alright as a sell-on.

Paully
Athletic Newcastle’s 4-2 loss at Brentford prompted action. Howe’s one-on-ones with his entire first-team squad was pivotal in Newcastle’s reset. He encouraged players to speak their minds and list their concerns, but then emphasised some basic truths. The season was in the balance and would fork in one of two directions. Perhaps their reputations — his included — would do likewise. For lots of reasons, it had been a bruising summer and autumn, but they had to get a grip. Most basic of all, they had to get a win and follow it up with another. After Brentford, when Newcastle were 12th in the table, they had won twice in 11 Premier League matches. Every manager needs positive results to reinforce their methods, to give players buy-in and although Howe felt his side were not too far away, results offered a counter-argument. When confidence suffers, performances follow, doubts fester, pressure mounts. It is something Howe has said repeatedly in public, during good times and bad: “Winning shapes everything”.
